Beyond Pegylated Interferon-Alpha: New Treatments for Hepatitis Delta.

AIDS Reviews, 2019
Persistent coinfection with the hepatitis B/D viruses (HDV) represents the most severe form of viral hepatitis. Hepatitis D often leads to liver cirrhosis, hepatic decompensation, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The current treatment options are limited as

Delta hepatitis — Present status

Journal of Hepatology, 1985
The hepatitis delta virus (Delta) is a defective RNA pathogen dependent for replication on obligatory helper functions provided by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The virion is a particle of 35-37 nm, which encloses within a HBsAg coat the RNA genome and the Delta antigen, the specific immunologic expression of the new pathogen.

Delta hepatitis: an update

Journal of Hepatology, 2003
Twenty-five years ago Rizzetto et al. [1], while examining liver biopsies from individuals infected with HBV, discovered by immunofluorescence a previously unrecognized nuclear antigen that was subsequently shown to be a specific marker of a novel human pathogen, HDV. The clinical association with HBV results from the fact that HDV is a defective virus

[Delta hepatitis].

Presse medicale (Paris, France : 1983), 1988
Hepatitis delta virus is a small defective RNA virus that replicates only in the presence of hepatitis B virus. Delta infections occur in two circumstances: co-infections where both viruses are acquired simultaneously, and superinfections where delta virus infects a patient who is already a chronic carrier of hepatitis B virus.

Treatment of delta hepatitis

Expert Review of Anti-infective Therapy, 2013
Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a defective RNA virus that depends on hepatitis B virus (HBV) for its lifecycle. Treatment of chronic HDV infection is difficult as it does not have an enzymatic function as a target, such as polymerases and proteases of HBV and hepatitis C virus.

Human Hepatitis Delta Virus

1991
In the past few years significant progress has been made in understanding the structure and replication of hepatitis delta (HDV). Some of this work has been recently reviewed (Bonino et al. 1990; Hoofnagle 1989; Taylor 1990a, b). The present chapter will emphasize those areas in which our perspective has recently changed and those questions about HDV ...
