The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...

Hepatitis delta virus: Disease assessment and stratification

open access: yesJournal of Viral Hepatitis, 2022
Hepatitis D virus (HDV) causes one of the most severe forms of hepatitis in people with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection. Timely and accurate assessment of hepatitis delta virus (HDV) and disease stratification is mandatory for thorough pre ...

Nicotinamide riboside and pterostilbene reduces markers of hepatic inflammation in NAFLD: A double‐blind, placebo‐controlled clinical trial

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
NRPT 1X reduces ALT and ceramide 14:0 in 65% of subjects as compared to only 28% in the placebo group. Abstract Background and Aims The prevalence of NAFLD is increasing globally and on a path to becoming the most frequent cause of chronic liver disease. Strategies for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD are urgently needed.

Hepatitis delta virus: From infection to new therapeutic strategies

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2021
The hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a small RNA virus that encodes a single protein and which requires the hepatitis B virus (HBV)-encoded hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) for its assembly and transmission.

Combinatorial targeting of G‐protein‐coupled bile acid receptor 1 and cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 reveals a mechanistic role for bile acids and leukotrienes in drug‐induced liver injury

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
CHIN117 is a dual cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CYSLTR1) antagonist and G‐protein‐coupled bile acid receptor 1 (GPBAR1) agonist. In the liver, GPBAR1 and CYSLTR1 are coexpressed by liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs), HSCs, circulating monocytes/macrophages, and liver resident macrophages (Kupffer cells).

Delta hepatitis [PDF]

open access: yesExpert Review of Anti-infective Therapy, 2009
Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a defective RNA virus that requires HBsAg for replication and transmission. It can cause acute or chronic hepatitis. Chronic infection with HDV is one of the most severe and difficult to treat forms of viral hepatitis. It has been estimated that there is a total of 15-20 million HDV carriers in the world.

Origin, HDV genotype and persistent viremia determine outcome and treatment response in patients with chronic hepatitis Delta.

open access: yesJournal of Hepatology, 2020
BACKGROUND/AIMS Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) infection causes severe chronic liver disease in Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infected individuals. Factors associated with poor prognosis are largely unknown.

In Vivo Models of HDV Infection: Is Humanizing NTCP Enough?

open access: yesViruses, 2021
The discovery of sodium taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide (NTCP) as a hepatitis B (HBV) and delta virus (HDV) entry receptor has encouraged the development of new animal models of infection.

Long‐Term Study of Hepatitis Delta Virus Infection at Secondary Care Centers: The Impact of Viremia on Liver‐Related Outcomes

open access: yesHepatology, 2020
Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) infection is associated with fast progression to liver cirrhosis and liver complications. Previous studies have, however, been mainly from tertiary care centers, with risk for referral bias toward patients with worse outcomes.
