AbstractThe aim of this study was to evaluate whether patients with chronic hepatitis delta virus (HDV) infection treated with alpha interferon and subsequent loss of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) eliminate HDV. HDV RNA was detected in 26 of 28 patients with chronic delta hepatitis using the polymerase chain reaction.

Hepatitis Delta Antigen and RNA Polymerase II
2007Replication and transcription of HDV proceed via RNA-dependent RNA synthesis. These reactions are thought to be catalyzed at least in part by host RNA polymerase II (RNAPII). Hepatitis delta antigen (HDAg), which is critical for these processes, was recently proposed to function as a transcription elongation factor for RNAPII.

Delta-Interacting Protein A and the Origin of Hepatitis Delta Antigen
Science, 1997Robert Brazas and Don Ganem ([1][1]) propose that the cellular protein, delta-interacting protein A (DIPA), interacts with hepatitis delta antigen (HDAg), affecting hepatitis delta virus (HDV) replication.

Stimulation of RNA Polymerase II Elongation by Hepatitis Delta Antigen
Science, 2001Transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) is negatively regulated by the human factors DRB-sensitivity inducing factor (DSIF) and negative elongation factor (NELF). A 66-kilodalton subunit of NELF (NELF-A) shows limited sequence similarity to hepatitis delta antigen (HDAg), the viral protein required for replication of hepatitis delta ...

Functional studies of hepatitis delta antigen and delta virus RNA.
Progress in clinical and biological research, 1991We have sequenced an HDV RNA from an acute delta hepatitis patient from the Nauru Islands. By comparison with other HDV sequences previously reported, we have identified three conserved regions: the first one is the sequence around the catalytic cleavage site for genomic-sense RNA; the second is the corresponding site for the antigenomic sense RNA; and

Post-translational Modification of Delta Antigen of Hepatitis D Virus
2006The hepatitis delta virus (HDV) genome has only one open reading frame, which encodes the viral small delta antigen. After RNA editing, the same open reading frame is extended 19 amino acids at the carboxyl terminus and encodes the large delta antigen.
