Reply to the Comments on “GLM7—A Novel Composite Glycolipid Index Derived from Routine Health Indicators for Enhanced Diagnosis and Prediction of Multimorbidity”

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper is a formal response to the comments raised by Yiquan Wang et al. and Peikai Sun et al. on our published work entitled “GLM7–A Novel Composite Glycolipid Index Derived from Routine Health Indicators for Enhanced Diagnosis and Prediction of Multimorbidity”. We address all the comments in this response.

Macrophage‐derived MLKL in alcohol‐associated liver disease: Regulation of phagocytosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
EtOH causes leaky gut allowing bacteria and PAMPs into the liver, resulting in hepatic inflammation and injury. We demonstrate that LPS induces STAT1‐mediated expression and phosphorylation of MLKL in macrophages and identify a novel function that myeloid MLKL translocates to phagosomes and lysosomes and regulates phagocytosis, which contributes to the

GIV noroviruses and other enteric viruses in bivalves: A preliminary study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We evaluated the presence of the enteric viruses: norovirus, adenovirus, enterovirus, astrovirus, hepatitis A virus, and hepatitis E virus in bivalves using nested PCR methods and cell culture assays. Noroviruses GII.4 and GIV.1, adenoviruses types 1 and

Factors associated with spontaneous clearance of chronic hepatitis C virus infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background & Aims: Spontaneous clearance of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (CHC) is rare. We conducted a retrospective case-control study to identify rates and factors associated with spontaneous clearance of CHC.

Palmitic Acid Promotes Antiviral Innate Immunity via ZDHHC20‐Mediated CMPK2 Palmitoylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolites have important functions in innate immune activation and regulation. Wang et al. uncover metabolic regulation of antiviral immunity through CMPK2 palmitoylation, which regulates CMPK2 mitochondrial localization and is promoted by ZDHHC20 but reversed by PPT1, inhibition of which antagonizes viral infection in mice.

Circulating TREM2 as a noninvasive diagnostic biomarker for NASH in patients with elevated liver stiffness

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims Reliable noninvasive biomarkers are an unmet clinical need for the diagnosis of NASH. This study investigates the diagnostic accuracy of the circulating triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (plasma TREM2) as a biomarker for NASH in patients with NAFLD and elevated liver stiffness.

Minimum target prices for production of direct acting antivirals and associated diagnostics to combat Hepatitis C Virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Combinations of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) can cure hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the majority of treatment-naïve patients. Mass treatment programs to cure HCV in developing countries are only feasible if the costs of treatment and laboratory ...

Secreted Nonstructural Protein 3 is a Pathogenic Determinant of Orbivirus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a conserved PIP2‐dependent secretory pathway of orbivirus NS3 that induces vascular leakage. Pharmacological disruption of PIP2‐NS3 interaction significantly reduces viral pathogenicity and provides protective efficacy in murine models, establishing PIP2‐mediated NS3 secretion as both a key virulence determinant and a promising ...

Fatty liver disease is not associated with increased mortality in the elderly: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Graphical abstract summarizing the study design, main results and key findings Abstract Background and Aims Fatty liver disease (FLD) has been associated with excess mortality. Screening for hepatic steatosis (HS) in patients with metabolic dysfunction is therefore recommended by several guidelines, despite a paucity of evidence on the clinical ...
