Melatonin enhances sorafenib actions in human hepatocarcinoma cells by inhibiting mTORC1/p70S6K/HIF-1α and hypoxia-mediated mitophagy

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2017
The antiangiogenic effects of sustained sorafenib treatment in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lead to the occurrence of hypoxia-mediated drug resistance resulting in low therapy efficiency and negative outcomes.

Untreated Hair Dye Effluents Enter the Environment: Are They a Threat to Human Health?

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The effluents generated during the process of hair dyeing exhibit a complex composition, comprising chemical compounds with varying toxicity levels. While the adverse impact of hair dyes on human health is acknowledged, there is a notable absence of studies addressing the toxicity associated with effluents produced during these activities. The

Dual-Responsive Core Crosslinking Glycopolymer-Drug Conjugates Nanoparticles for Precise Hepatocarcinoma Therapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
Nanoparticles (NPs) have demonstrated a potential for hepatocarcinoma therapy. However, the effective and safe NP-mediated drug transportation is still challenging due to premature leakage and inaccurate release of the drug.

Solamargine induces acute myeloid leukemia differentiation through TLR8 activation

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
SM, a steroidal alkaloid from Solanum nigrum L. has shown anticancer effect on various kinds of human cancer cells, yet its effect on leukemia cells remains unclear. This study examines antileukemic activities of SM in AML cells. Results indicate SM inhibits growth and promotes apoptosis of AML cells.

Oxygen‐independent expression of HIF‐1α during the cell cycle in hepatocellular carcinoma cells controls essential metabolic pathways under normoxia

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
In Huh7 cells, HIF‐1α is essential as it maintains the expression of proteins involved in glycolysis and steroid/cholesterol biosynthesis both under normoxia and hypoxia. On the other hand, in HeLa cells, these pathways are induced by HIF‐1α only under hypoxia.
