Contemporary management of pain in cirrhosis: Toward precision therapy for pain

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Chronic pain is highly prevalent in patients with cirrhosis and is associated with poor health‐related quality of life and poor functional status. However, there is limited guidance on appropriate pain management in this population, and pharmacologic treatment can be harmful, leading to adverse outcomes, such as gastrointestinal bleeding ...

Genetic Characterization and Pathogenesis of Avian Influenza Virus H3N8 Isolated from Chinese pond heron in China in 2021

open access: yesViruses, 2023
In October 2021, a wild bird-origin H3N8 influenza virus-A/Chinese pond heron/Jiangxi 5-1/2021 (H3N8)-was isolated from Chinese pond heron in China. Phylogenetic and molecular analyses were performed to characterize the genetic origin of the H3N8 strain.

Estimating Waterbird Abundance on Catfish Aquaculture Ponds Using an Unmanned Aerial System

open access: yesHuman-Wildlife Interactions, 2019
In this study, we examined the use of an unmanned aerial system (UAS) to monitor fish-eating birds on catfish (Ictalurus spp.) aquaculture facilities in Mississippi, USA.

Cold asymmetrical fermion superfluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this work we investigate the general properties and the ground state of an asymmetrical dilute gas of cold fermionic atoms, formed by two particle species having different densities.

Wind Speed Retrieval from Simulated RADARSAT Constellation Mission Compact Polarimetry SAR Data for Marine Application

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) compact polarimetry (CP) data were simulated using 504 RADARSAT-2 quad-pol SAR images. These images were used to samples CP data in three RCM modes to build a data set with co-located ocean wind vector observations ...

Changes in heron and egret populations on the Laurentian Great Lakes and connecting channels, 1977-2009

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2015
Canadian and U.S. federal wildlife agencies completed four decadal surveys, spanning the years 1977 to 2009, to census colonial waterbirds breeding on the Great Lakes and adjoining bodies of water.

Amicable Heron Triangles

open access: yesThe Fibonacci Quarterly, 2021
A Heron triangle is a triangle whose side lengths and area are integers. Two Heron triangles are amicable if the perimeter of one is the area of the other. We show, using elementary techniques, that there is only one pair of amicable Heron triangles.

Norm inequalities related to the Heron and Heinz means [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this article, we present several inequalities treating operator means and the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. In particular, we present some new comparisons between operator Heron and Heinz means, several generalizations of the difference version of the ...

Biomineralization of primary carbonate cements: a new biosignature in the fossil record from the Anisian of Southern Italy

open access: yesLethaia, EarlyView., 2021
Biomineralization is a generic term used to indicate biological‐mediated mineral formation. In carbonate mineralization, nucleation of crystals can be: (1) controlled directly by the organisms, like in the skeletal formation of most metazoans; (2) induced by microbial communities, by indirect precipitation mediated by their metabolic activities; or (3)
