Latent Multiple Infections by Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1.

open access: yesThe Kurume Medical Journal, 2000
Viral strains obtained during the same period which were asymptomatically shed into the saliva of patients with oral cancer after surgery or isolated from the focus of patients with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection after first visit to hospital were analyzed using molecular epidemiology. There were 10 subjects in each group.

Validation of the German version of Infants and Toddlers Dermatology Quality of Life (InToDermQoL) Questionnaire

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
Summary Background and Objectives Skin diseases can greatly impair quality of life (QoL) of pediatric patients and their families. The Infants and Toddlers Dermatology Quality of Life questionnaire (InToDermQoL) is the first skin‐generic instrument assessing QoL in children ≤ 4 years, as reported by their caregiver. This study aimed to psychometrically

Antiviral potential of sugarcane bagasse-derived carbon quantum dots against SARS-CoV-2, and herpes simplex virus-1

open access: yesDiscover Applied Sciences
Viral diseases pose a serious global threat due to their ability to spread quickly and mutate. The ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic exemplifies this challenge, as effective treatments and vaccines are still under development.

Vaccine potential of a herpes simplex virus type 1 mutant with an essential glycoprotein deleted [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Several approaches to the production of vaccines to human herpesviruses have been proposed. Subunit vaccines, subunits delivered by live vectors, and rationally attenuated vaccines have all been shown to be efficacious in animal models but suffer from ...

Role of human RNase 7 in neuronal and glial cell models: moving towards an unexpected new functional link

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Human RNase 7 is known to exert antimicrobial activity in epithelial tissues. Here, using SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG, neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell lines, respectively, we found that RNase 7 enhances immune responses to LPS stimulation by reducing the expression of pro‐inflammatory cytokines, nitric oxide, and ROS.

Anti-HSV-1 agents: an update

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Herpes simplex virus type I (HSV-1) is a member of the α-herpesvirus subfamily and is capable of causing herpes simplex keratitis, herpes labialis, and herpes simplex encephalitis. HSV-1 is well known for its lytic infections at the primary sites and for

1H NMR metabolomics and lipidomics analysis of neutrophils reveals biomarkers of ageing, inflammageing and frailty

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Using 1H NMR metabolomics, we measured polar and lipid metabolites from human blood neutrophils from people with frailty (n = 31, mean age 84Y), people with rheumatoid arthritis (n = 16, mean age 55Y), robust older (n = 24, mean age 66Y) and healthy younger people (n = 21, mean age 22Y).
