Bovine herpesvirus 5 BICP0 complements the bovine herpesvirus 1 homolog [PDF]
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) and BoHV-5 are closely related (82% amino acid identity) but differ strongly in neuropathogenesis. The immediate-early gene for BICP0 is less conserved (70% amino acid identity) and may contribute to a dissimilar phenotype.

Bovine herpesvirus 1 infection and infectious bovine rhinotracheitis [PDF]
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1), classified as an alphaherpesvirus, is a major pathogen of cattle. Primary infection is accompanied by various clinical manifestations such as infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, abortion, infectious pustular vulvovaginitis, and systemic infection in neonates.

Bovine Herpesvirus 1 U L 3.5 Interacts with Bovine Herpesvirus 1 α-Transinducing Factor [PDF]
ABSTRACT The bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) U L 3.5 gene encodes a 126-amino-acid tegument protein. Homologs of U L 3.5 are present in some alphaherpesviruses and have 20 to 30% overall amino acid homology that is concentrated in the N-terminal 50 amino acids.

Ruminant alphaherpesviruses related to bovine herpesvirus 1 [PDF]
Herpesviruses have mainly co-evolved with their hosts for millions of years. Consequently, different related host species may have been infected by various genetically related herpesviruses. Illustrating this concept, several ruminant alphaherpesviruses have been shown to form a cluster of viruses closely related to bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1 ...

Risk factors for bovine herpesvirus-1 seropositivity [PDF]
This paper reports the investigation of risk factors for bovine herpesvirus-1-seropositivity, based on a cluster-sample survey of the Belgian cattle population. This serosurvey was carried out in 1998 in 309 randomly selected unvaccinated herds of all types (dairy, mixed and beef) were all bovids (N = 11,284) were sampled.

Inhibition of bovine sperm–zona binding by bovine herpesvirus-1 [PDF]
The purpose of the present study was to identify a potential interference of bovine herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1) with sperm–oocyte interactions during bovinein vitrofertilization. An inhibition of almost 70% of sperm–zona binding was observed when bovine cumulus-denuded oocytes were inseminated in the presence of 10750% tissue culture infective dose/ml BoHV ...

Rapid identification and differentiation of the vaccine strain Rac H from EHV 1 field isolates using a non-radioactive DNA probe [PDF]
A method for rapid differentiation between the EHV 1 live vaccine strain Rac H and field isolates is described. Total DNA was isolated from virus-infected small scale cell cultures.

Genome signatures, self-organizing maps and higher order phylogenies: a parametric analysis [PDF]
Genome signatures are data vectors derived from the compositional statistics of DNA. The self-organizing map (SOM) is a neural network method for the conceptualisation of relationships within complex data, such as genome signatures.
