Survival rate of Suid Herpesvirus (SuHV-1, Aujeszky's disease virus, ADV) in composted sewage sludge
Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2012Sewage sludge constitutes a source of valuable biogenic raw materials, but it is a carrier of many pathogenic microorganisms and viruses. Subjected to an effective sanitization by means of the process of composting, it is suitable to use in agriculture as fertilizers.

The genomic diversity among isolates of suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) collected in the same herd and among clones from the same isolate was studied by restriction fragment pattern (RFP) analysis using BamHI. Tentatively defining a field strain as a transmissible entity, it was concluded that strains of SHV-1 commonly comprise distinguishable genomic ...

Several studies have reported that molecules extracted from invertebrates have activity against different viruses, even against those that do not infect these organisms in their environment. One of the main mechanisms against pathogens in these organisms is the production of antimicrobial peptides.

Herpesviral DNA-binding protein (DBP) is a unique protein involved in viral DNA replication and genomic recombination. It binds and stabilizes the single-stranded DNA. It also forms the D-loops and promotes the strand invasion. To identify the functional regions and amino acid residues required for DNA binding and D-loop formation, we characterized ...

Purified DNA from 42 isolates of Suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) collected during 1985 from clinical outbreaks of Aujezsky's disease on Danish farms was compared by restriction fragment pattern (RFP) analysis. The BamHI generated RFPs were found to be distinguishable, thus confirming RFP analysis as a potential epidemiological tool.

Six isolates of Suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) collected from clinical outbreaks of Aujeszky's disease (AD) in Jutland in January-February, 1985, were compared by restriction fragment pattern (RFP) analyses with older SHV-1 isolates from Jutland as well as with SHV-1 isolates from different parts of West Germany and Ireland. The RFP analysis indicated that

Field isolates of suid herpesvirus 1 (Aujeszky's disease virus) from Poland and Hungary were identified by restriction fragment pattern analysis as derivatives of attenuated vaccine strains. The Polish isolates were found to be related to the BUK-TK-900 strain (Suivac A) which is widely used as a live vaccine in Poland, and the Hungarian isolates were ...

The effect of recombinant porcine interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) on the immunogenicity in vivo of inactivated suid herpesvirus-1 (SHV-1, Phylaxia strain) was studied applying two successive i.m. immunizations. The animals were injected with inactivated virus alone or inactivated virus supplemented with 10(4) or 10(6) U IFN-gamma.

Eleven European isolates of Suid herpesvirus type 1 (SHV-1) were compared by restriction fragment pattern analyses and Southern blot hybridization using different genomic probes. The presence of strain discriminative 4 major genome types and several subtypes as well as the molecular distinctions between these were demonstrated.

The population biology of suid herpesvirus 1.
APMIS. Supplementum, 1995Suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) is the causative agent of Aujeszky's disease (AD, pseudorabies), known worldwide as a major economical threat to pig farming. Measures are taken in many countries to control or eradicate the disease and considerable effort therefore has been focused on the elucidation of the epizootiology of the infection.
