Newly identified properties of known pharmaceuticals and myxobacterial small molecules revealed by screening for autophagy modulators

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Autophagy is a cellular degradation process involved in, for example, immune responses to pathogens and neurodegeneration. To identify modulators of autophagy, we developed a microscopy‐based screening assay and identified previously unknown autophagy‐modulating activities in known drugs and natural products from myxobacteria and fungi.

The Transcriptional Landscape of Marek’s Disease Virus in Primary Chicken B Cells Reveals Novel Splice Variants and Genes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Marek’s disease virus (MDV) is an oncogenic alphaherpesvirus that infects chickens and poses a serious threat to poultry health. In infected animals, MDV efficiently replicates in B cells in various lymphoid organs.

Characterization of BoHV-5 field strains circulation and report of transient specific subtype of bovine herpesvirus 5 in Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) is a member of the subfamily Alphaherpesvirinae responsible for meningo-encephalitis in young cattle. The first case of bovine meningo-encephalitis associated with a herpesvirus infection was reported in ...

The Involvement of Histone H3 Acetylation in Bovine Herpesvirus 1 Replication in MDBK Cells

open access: yesViruses, 2018
During bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) productive infection in cell cultures, partial of intranuclear viral DNA is present in nucleosomes, and viral protein VP22 associates with histones and decreases histone H4 acetylation, indicating the involvement of ...

Assessment of Cidofovir for Treatment of Ocular Bovine Herpesvirus-1 Infection in Cattle Using an Ex-Vivo Model

open access: yesViruses, 2021
Bovine herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1) infection contributes to keratoconjunctivitis, respiratory disease, and reproductive losses in cattle. The objective of this study was to determine the most appropriate ophthalmic antiviral agent for BoHV-1 inhibition using ...

A Neutrophil-Derived Antiviral Protein - Induction-Requirements and Biological Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Polymorphonuclear neutrophilic granulocytes (PMN) have been implicated as playing a role in antiviral defense. In addition to having phagocytic and cytotoxic activities, PMN may produce an antiviral substance with interferon (IFN)-like activity.

Microarray Chip Based Identification of a Mixed Infection of Bovine Herpesvirus 1 and Bovine Viral Diarrhea 2 From Indian Cattle [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Microbiology, 2013
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV1) and bovine viral diarrhea virus 2 (BVD2) are endemic in India although no mixed infection with these viruses has been reported from India. We report first mixed infection of these viruses in cattle during routine screening with a microarray chip.

CD4‐Based Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)‐T Cells With Resistance to HIV‐1 Infection and Enhanced Anti‐HIV Efficacy: Covalent Interaction Between CD4‐CAR and HIV‐1 Envelope Glycoprotein

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The current highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART or ART) effectively suppresses de novo HIV‐1 infection but fails to eliminate HIV reservoir cells, which leads to rapid viral rebound upon ART cessation. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells engineered to target HIV‐1 Env⁺ cells offer a promising strategy to eliminate or control these ...

Exploration of semen quality analyzed by casa-mot systems of brahman bulls infected with BLV and BHV-1

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Enzootic bovine leukosis virus (BLV) and bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) are very important infectious agents for the livestock industry worldwide. The present study aimed to explore the association between natural exposure to BLV and BHV-1 with sperm ...
