Avenanthramide C From Oats Possibly Exerts Anti‐Inflammatory Effects in Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with inflammation and cardiovascular complications and is partly exacerbated by the uremic toxin indoxyl sulfate (IS). IS is known to activate the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) to promote vascular inflammation.

Herpes Zoster in Hematological Disorders: Pathogenesis, Risk Stratification, and Emerging Strategies for Prevention and Immunization

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, Volume 116, Issue 1, Page 14-22, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Herpes zoster (HZ), resulting from reactivation of latent varicella‐zoster virus (VZV), imposes a significant burden on immunocompromised patients, particularly those with hematological malignancies and recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT).

Ubiquitination dynamics in human tumour viruses: Viral infection, oncogenesis and antiviral therapy

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 2, Page 325-347, January 2026.
The ubiquitin system is essential for cellular homeostasis and regulates many processes. Viruses, including oncogenic ones, exploit or evade this system to survive and replicate. This review explores how human tumour viruses manipulate the ubiquitination system to complete their life cycle, evade immunity and promote cancer.

AIRE's Complex Role Beyond Promiscuous Gene Expression

open access: yesImmunological Reviews, Volume 337, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Central tolerance, established in the thymus, ensures T cells are nonreactive to self‐antigens while maintaining a functional immune repertoire. Medullary thymic epithelial cells (mTECs) and thymic dendritic cells (DCs) play a crucial role in this mechanism by orchestrating the selection and deletion of autoreactive thymocytes, a process ...

Extracellular Vesicle‐Derived microRNAs as Fluid Biomarkers in Neurodegenerative Diseases: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 1, January 2026.
Given the absence of curative treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, early detection and therapeutic intervention are critical to slowing disease progression. The last decade has seen accumulating evidence for microRNA dysregulation in circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs); however, assessing reproducibility between studies remains challenging ...
