Perceived costs as drivers of wildlife management preferences in rural Tanzanian communities

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Effectively managing human–wildlife interactions is crucial for fostering coexistence on shared landscapes. Management options are most effective when aligned with the preferences of people directly affected by wildlife, yet little is known about how socioecological factors influence these preferences.

Pseudorabies virus gM and its homologous proteins in herpesviruses induce mitochondria-related apoptosis involved in viral pathogenicity.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens
Apoptosis is a critical host antiviral defense mechanism. But many viruses have evolved multiple strategies to manipulate apoptosis and escape host antiviral immune responses.

Clinical and genetic characterization of intellectual disability

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
This study examines the etiological factors and comorbidities in a large cohort of Finnish patients with intellectual disability. Genetic causes—including chromosomal abnormalities and pathogenic gene variants—were more frequently identified in individuals with moderate to profound intellectual disability.

Absence of DNA viruses in ameloblastomas

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Ameloblastomas (ABs) are rare odontogenic benign tumors. Although studies of the molecular pathogenesis have revealed the presence of mutations and altered gene expression, the etiology is unresolved. Viruses cause 10%–15 % of cancers, but their potential role within benign tumors is less studied.

First Molecular Detection of Porcine Cytomegalovirus (PCMV) and Porcine Lymphotropic Herpesvirus (PLHV) in Domestic Pigs in Poland

open access: yesPathogens
Contrary to extensively studied porcine alphaherpesvirus (SuHV-1/PRV), betaherpesvirus (SuHV-2/PCMV) and Gammaherpesvirinae (SuHV-3/PLHV-1, SuHV-4/PLHV-2, SuHV-5/PLHV-3) infections remain unexplored in the swine population in Poland.

Features of Human Herpesvirus-6A and -6B Entry

open access: yesAdvances in Virology, 2012
Human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) is a T lymphotropic herpesvirus belonging to the Betaherpesvirinae subfamily. HHV-6 was long classified into variants A and B (HHV-6A and HHV-6B); however, recently, HHV-6A and HHV-6B were reclassified as different species ...
