Human Herpesvirus 6: An Emerging Pathogen

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 1999
Infections with human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6), a ß-herpesvirus of which two variant groups (A and B) are recognized, is very common, approaching 100% in seroprevalence.

The DNA Sequence of the RK Strain of Human Herpesvirus 7

open access: yesVirology, 1998
The complete DNA sequence of human herpesvirus-7 (HHV-7) strain RK was determined following direct cloning of virion DNA fragments into a sequencing vector. The sequence was compared with the previously published complete sequences of HHV-7 strain JI and human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) strain U1102.

Mycobacterium avium Subsp. paratuberculosis and Human Endogenous Retrovirus in Italian Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), is a recognised gastrointestinal disorder. Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is implicated in IBD pathogenesis. Persistent exposure and active infections by MAP may contribute to the unsilencing of human endogenous retroviruses (HERV ...

Photodynamic therapy of cancer‐associated infections

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Pathogens can be involved in tumor initiation, promotion and progression through different mechanisms, and their treatment can prevent new cancer cases, improve outcomes, and revert poor‐prognostic phenotypes. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) successfully treats different types of cancers and infections, and, therefore, has a unique potential to address ...

Human herpesvirus 6 and 7

open access: yes, 2016
Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and 7 (HHV-7) constitute the roseolavirus group of β-herpesviruses. HHV-6 has two subtypes HHV-6A and HHV-6B. Both HHV-6 and HHV-7 tend to produce mild self-limiting illness in immunocompetent children that typically develops in late infancy and early childhood. HHV-6, in particular, is associated with a viral exanthem known

Genetic polymorphism of human herpesvirus-7 among human populations

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2001
The analysis of three human herpesvirus-7 (HHV-7) genes encoding phosphoprotein p100, glycoprotein B and major capsid protein respectively had previously shown the existence of distinct gene alleles, leading to the concept of HHV-7 variants. We have analysed the distribution of HHV-7 variants among 297 distinct subjects who belonged to different human ...

Infections Management in the Lung Transplant Setting in Italy: A Web‐Survey

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, Volume 27, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
A web survey has revealed significant variation in infection management practices across Italian lung transplant centers. These differences encompass key aspects of infection prevention and control, including antibiotic protocols and cytomegalovirus prophylaxis, underscoring a lack of consistency in fundamental strategies.

Association between Pityriasis Rosea (PR) and HHV-6/HHV-7 Infection: Importance of Sample Selection and Diagnostic Techniques

open access: yesDiagnostics
Recent studies have focused on the role of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) in PR etiology with varying results. In our study, with the approach that the discrepancy between the results may be related to the different samples ...

Human sporadic breast carcinoma histotypes driven by the Human Betaretrovirus homologous to Mouse Mammary Tumor Virus

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 157, Issue 2, Page 371-383, 15 July 2025.
What's new? While estrogens, obesity, and alcohol are recognized risk factors for breast cancer, a viral hypothesis has been suggested based on the murine model of Mouse Mammary Tumor Virus (MMTV)‐induced mammary tumors. This study analyzed sequences of the human homolog of MMTV across human breast carcinoma histotypes, detecting the virus in all types

What's So Human about Human-AI Collaboration, Anyway? Generative AI and Human-Computer Interaction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
While human-AI collaboration has been a longstanding goal and topic of study for computational research, the emergence of increasingly naturalistic generative AI language models has greatly inflected the trajectory of such research. In this paper we identify how, given the language capabilities of generative AI, common features of human-human ...
