Human herpesvirus 8: an update
Microbes and Infection, 2004The discovery of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) has opened a new field in the biology and in the clinical definition of HHV-8-associated diseases. Various aspects of epidemiology, laboratory diagnosis and treatment of HHV-8 infection are still controversial.

Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8, KSHV) is a novel virus for which fragments of genomic sequence were identified in 1994. This was done by means of a differential amplification technique applied to the DNA of Kaposi's sarcoma lesions and normal tissues obtained from the same individual.

The molecular genetics of human herpesvirus 8
Hospital Medicine, 2000Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) is 10 times commoner in homosexual men than in other transmission groups and is four times more frequent in HIV-positive patients who acquired their infection from blood transfusions than in haemophiliacs.

Mucosal shedding of human herpesvirus 8 in men.
New England Journal of Medicine, 2000BACKGROUND Epidemiologic studies suggest that human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is sexually transmitted among men who have sex with men; however, the mode of transmission is unclear.

Abstract Since the discovery of human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) 4 years ago, a remarkable amount of data has accumulated on the biology and disease-associations of this virus. There is compelling evidence that HHV-8 is the long sought after agent which causes Kaposi's sarcoma.

Human Herpesvirus 8: Is it a Tumor Virus?
Proceedings of the Association of American Physicians, 1999Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV‐8), also termed Kaposi's sarcoma–associated herpesvirus, was identified in Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) biopsy specimens in 1994. The epidemiological data available to date indicate a strong association of HHV‐8 with KS. It appears that HHV‐8 is necessary for KS development.

We describe a case of an 87-year-old human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative man who developed a primary pleural lymphoma without any identifiable tumor mass associated with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection. A large T-cell lymphoma was diagnosed

Is Human Herpesvirus-8 Transmitted by Transfusion?
Transfusion Medicine Reviews, 2010Studies of human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) transmission through transfusion have produced contradictory results. In North America-a region with a low prevalence of HHV-8 infection-3 studies that tested specimens from linked positive-donor/negative-recipient pairs collected before the introduction of white blood cell (WBC) reduction and the extension of red

KAPOSI'S SARCOMA AND HUMAN HERPESVIRUS-8
Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 1998KS is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among AIDS patients and a treatment problem in the sporadic cases that are not associated with HIV. All four forms of the disease are linked to a newly described herpesvirus, HHV-8 or KSHV, via strong epidemiologic associations and biologic plausibility as a causal agent.

Extensive oral shedding of human herpesvirus 8 in a renal allograft recipient.
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 2009INTRODUCTION Studies were conducted to investigate changes in the extent of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) shedding and diversity of HHV-8 strains in the mouth of a renal allograft recipient who developed cutaneous post-transplantation Kaposi's sarcoma ...
