Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

SUBSET: Best Subsets using Information Criteria [PDF]

open access: yes
SUBSET, written in the matrix language Gauss, is a program that identifies optimal subsets of means or proportions based on independent groups. All possible configurations of ordered subsets of groups are identified and the best model is selected using ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

The Macroeconomic Role of Unemployment Compensation [PDF]

open access: yes
The standard motivation for unemployment compensation is consumption smoothing and most papers in the literature have analyzed trade-offs involving consumption smoothing and moral hazard.

Population structure and variance effective size of red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) in the northern Gulf of Mexico* [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We assayed allelic variation at 19 nuclear-encoded microsatellites among 1622 Gulf red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) sampled from the 1995 and 1997 cohorts at each of three offshore localities in the northern Gulf of Mexico (Gulf).

Analyses of Data with Heterogeneous Variance: A Review

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1971
Abstract Appropriate analyses are reviewed for comparisons of means and estimation of regression coefficients when variances are not uniform. Approximate t and F-statistics are illustrated for comparisons of two means, k means, multiple comparisons, and two-way classifications. Transformations and weighted regression also are discussed.

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

IMPACT OF THE UNEVEN DISTRIBUTION OF THE NUMBER OF PROGENIES BY SIRES IN THE GENETIC EVALUATION OF ANIMALS IN ENVIRONMENTS WITH PRESENCE OF HETEROGENEITY OF ENVIRONMENTAL VARIANCE

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2017
A progeny test representing the milk yield was simulated to evaluate the effect of heterogeneity of environmental variance on genetic evaluation of sires in situations of unequal number of progeny per sire between herds, eliminating, at random, daughters
