Heterogeneity of variance and biased hypothesis tests
Journal of Applied Statistics, 2013This study examined the influence of heterogeneity of variance on Type I error rates and power of the independent-samples Student's t-test of equality of means on samples of scores from normal and 10 non-normal distributions. The same test of equality of means was performed on corresponding rank-transformed scores.

Heterogeneity of variance and dairy cattle breeding
Animal Science, 1992AbstractThe effects of heterogeneity among herds in phenotypic variance (σ2p) and in heritability (h2) on the accuracy of evaluation of dairy sires and cows are discussed with reference to estimates from field data. It is argued that heterogeneity of σ2P can be accounted for by using a (Bayesian) regression procedure.

Diagnosing explainable heterogeneity of variance in random‐effects models
The Canadian Journal of Statistics / La Revue Canadienne de Statistique, 2000Summary: Data-analytic tools for models other than the normal linear regression models are relatively rare. Here we develop plots and diagnostic statistics for nonconstant variance for the random-effects model (REM). REMs for longitudinal data include both within- and between-subject variances.

Heterogeneity and Skewness in Analysis of Variance
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1963Several power functions were computed to determine the influence of violations of assumptions on the analysis of variance. For each analysis two groups of 10 scores each were randomly selected from a normally distributed population of 10,000 cases. In all cases each of the several points on the power curves was determined by the percentage of rejected

Heterogeneity of variance amongst herds for milk production
Animal Science, 1986ABSTRACTEstimates were obtained of the variability among herds of dairy cattle of the standard deviation (s.d.) and coefficient of variation (CV) of milk, fat and protein yield. For fat yield, for example, the mean s.d. within herds for heifers was about 30 kg, the s.d. among herds was 5·2 kg and the mean and s.d.

A mixed logit model with mean-variance heterogeneity to investigate factors of crash occurrence
International Journal of Injury Control and Safety Promotion, 2021This study thoroughly investigated factors affecting crash occurrence using detailed data of crash, traffic condition and freeway geometries. To fully account for heterogeneity induced by unobserved characteristics of crash factors, a mixed logit model ...

Accounting for regional variance heterogeneity of growth
Applied Economics, 2010This article explores heterogeneous behaviour in the conditional variance of growth. We find that regional effects account for a good part of this behaviour when modelled alone; however, regional effects themselves have no particular meaning. To this end, we try to empirically account for the regional effects using a large set of economic, political ...
