Acoustic source localization in heterogeneous media

Ultrasonics, 2019
Acoustic source localization (ASL) or predicting the location of the acoustic source in a structure by analyzing the recorded signals at the receivers is of considerable interest for various applications. Recent research advances on this topic have been limited to homogeneous media.

Ultrasound Emitter Localization in Heterogeneous Media

2007 29th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2007
A novel algorithm to accurately determine the location of an ultrasound source within heterogeneous media is presented. The method obtains a small spacial error of 748 microm+/-310 microm for 100 different measurements inside a circular area with 140 mm diameter. The new algorithm can be used in targeted drug delivery for cancer therapies as well as to

Inversion in Heterogeneous Media

2001
In Chapter 3, we created our first inversion formulas for the three-dimensional inverse-scattering imaging problem. We formulated the problem for the special case of data collected with a zero-offset recording geometry, and assumed a constant-background wavespeed.

Waves in Highly Heterogeneous Media

Advances in Optical Imaging and Photon Migration, 2022
Recent time-domain ultrasonic and numerical experiments on classical waves in two-dimensional Anderson localizing random media are reviewed. It is shown that the transport, albeit weak, occurs on a time scale comparable to a diffusive time scale, and is not exponentially slow.

On Diffusion in Heterogeneous Media

American Journal of Science, 2012
Diffusion in heterogeneous solid media has been investigated for over forty years. However, the derived equations for bulk (or effective) diffusivity used similarity argument between diffusion and other physical properties such as electrical and thermal conductivity, and hence either implicitly or explicitly assumed that the concentrations are ...

Conduction through heterogeneous media

1998
Abstract 310.] There are two conditions which the distribution of currents must fulfil in general, the condition that the potential must be continuous, and the condition of ‘continuity’ of the electric currents. At the surface of separation between two media the first of these conditions requires that the potentials at two

Crack Phenomena in Heterogeneous Media

1992
This paper is devoted to a survey of recent work of the authors on applications of singularity theory to the study of the propagation of cracks in elastic-brittle materials. In particular we consider singular situations (crack arriving to an interface between two media, for example) appearing in composite materials.

Viscoelastic Behavior of Heterogeneous Media

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1965
The macroscopic viscoelastic behavior of linear viscoelastic heterogeneous media is defined in terms of effective relaxation moduli and creep compliances. It is shown that these effective relaxation and creep functions are related to effective elastic moduli of elastic heterogeneous media by the correspondence principle of the theory of linear ...
