New Insights Into Complex Interactions Between Heterogeneity and Wettability Influencing Two‐Phase Flow in Porous Media

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Coupled effects of wettability and pore geometry on pore‐scale dynamics of immiscible two‐phase fluid displacement were investigated using a multiphase lattice Boltzmann model in homogeneous and heterogeneous porous media under a wide range of contact ...

Catastrophic Rupture Induced Damage Coalescence in Heterogeneous Brittle Media

open access: yes, 2004
In heterogeneous brittle media, the evolution of damage is strongly influenced by the multiscale coupling effect. To better understand this effect, we perform a detailed investigation of the damage evolution, with particular attention focused on the ...

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Literacy at play: An analysis of media literacy games used to foster media literacy competencies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Media literacy is considered one of the key competencies to acquire in the 21st century. With games being recognized as having a large potential to train and educate, a wide range of games focusing on media literacy related topics such as fake news games,

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Heterogeneous Data Alignment for Cross-Media Computing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Massive data sets are generated everyday, and knowledge spreading trends to involve diverse media types and information sources. The new situation emerges some new challenging research problems: (1) How to bridge the heterogeneity and mine the shared ...

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Examining the Significance of Advective Acceleration to Single-Phase Flow Through Heterogeneous Porous Media

open access: yes, 2006
Practically every groundwater flow simulator in use today implements Darcy's law to model saturated flow [1, 4, 64, 65]. Darcy's law is a linear relation derived experimentally in the mid 1800's by Henry Darcy.
