Phase-field crystal modelling of crystal nucleation, heteroepitaxy and patterning
We apply a simple dynamical density functional theory, the phase-field-crystal (PFC) model, to describe homogeneous and heterogeneous crystal nucleation in 2d monodisperse colloidal systems and crystal nucleation in highly compressed Fe liquid.

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Avrami exponent under transient and heterogeneous nucleation transformation conditions
The Kolmogorov-Johnson-Mehl-Avrami model for isothermal transformation kinetics is universal under specific assumptions. However, the experimental Avrami exponent deviates from the universal value.

Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Oilfield production water is a multiphase complex system, and the scaling process should be influenced by other components. However, current research on scaling and scale inhibition has been conducted while neglecting other components, which may lead to ...

Heterogeneous ice nucleation on silver-iodide-like surfaces
We attempt to simulate the heterogeneous nucleation of ice at model silver-iodide surfaces and find relatively facile ice nucleation and growth at the Ag+ termi nated basal face, but never see nucleation at the I- terminated basal face or the prism and ...

Heterogeneous Nucleation in and out of Pores
We study the nucleation of a new thermodynamic phase in pores and find that the nucleation often proceeds via two steps: nucleation of pore filling, and nucleation out of the pore. These two rates have opposing dependencies on pore size, resulting in a pore size at which the nucleation rate of the new phase is maximal.

Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.

LL‐37 Driven Phase Transition and Stacking in Oligolamellar Gram‐Negative Bacterial Membrane Models
This work establishes oligolamellar bacterial membrane models to investigate how LL‐37 disrupts the complex dual‐bilayer architecture of Gram‐negative bacteria. Combining SAXS, cryo‐TEM, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and coarse‐grained simulations, it reveals cardiolipin‐driven phase transitions leading to bicelle‐like structures and membrane ...

On the transition between heterogeneous and homogeneous freezing [PDF]
Box model simulations of an uplifting and adiabatically cooling cloud of aerosol have been performed in order to study the transition between cirrus formation dominated by homogeneous nucleation of ice to that dominated by heterogeneous nucleation. The
