Identification and optimization of PrsA in Bacillus subtilis for improved yield of amylase

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2019
Background PrsA is an extracytoplasmic folding catalyst essential in Bacillus subtilis. Overexpression of the native PrsA from B. subtilis has repeatedly lead to increased amylase yields.

Expression of heterologous phosphofructokinase genes in yeast [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1993
Genes encoding phosphofructokinases (PFK) from Escherichia coli and from the human muscle were expressed in PFK‐deficient strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae under the control of an inducible GAL1 promoter. They restored PFK activity under inducing conditions and complemented the galactose‐negative growth phenotype of the recipient strains.

Redox‐Dependent Chaperoning of GBF1 Condensates Regulates Seed Germination in Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In dormant seeds (low ROS), GBF1 forms liquid condensates to repress the germination gene CathB3, and the chaperone GIP1 maintains condensate liquidity and repressive activity. Upon imbibition (high ROS), ROS oxidize GIP1 during germination, impairing its chaperone function.

Streptavidins Coordinate Biotin Sequestration and Self‐Resistance Within a Biotin‐Pathway Antibiotic Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conserved genomic region between two streptavidin genes in Streptomyces packages biosynthetic gene clusters for diverse biotin‐pathway antibiotics: acidomycin, stravidin, the new non‐proteinogenic amino acid ANDA, and the new BioA inhibitor α‐methyl‐KAPA.

Analysis of BnMTL, a novel metallothionein‐like protein in the bast fiber crop Ramie (Boehmeria nivea)

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2019
Ramie (Boehmeria nivea) is a perennial herb that is highly tolerant of heavy metals. In the present study, we cloned a novel metallothionein‐like gene from ramie; this gene, termed BnMTL, encodes a putative 46 amino acid protein with a molecular mass of ...

A new high-performance heterologous fungal expression system based on regulatory elements from the Aspergillus terreus terrein gene cluster

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Recently, the Aspergillus terreus terrein gene cluster was identified and selected for development of a new heterologous expression system. The cluster encodes the specific transcription factor TerR that is indispensable for terrein cluster induction. To

Lilrb4a Suppression Reprograms Microglia to Mitigate APOE4‐Associated Amyloid Plaques and Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy in Association With a PPAR‐Linked Pro‐Clearance State

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Targeting Lilrb4a in Apolipoprotein E4 (APOE4)‐associated Alzheimer's disease (AD) reprograms microglia toward a beneficial, phagocytic state. Genetic deletion or antisense inhibition of Lilrb4a suppresses p‐SHP2/NF‐κB/STAT1 signaling, restores PPAR‐linked lipid and energy metabolism, and reduces amyloid plaque burden and cerebral amyloid angiopathy ...

Current Understanding on the Heterogenous Expression of Plastic Depolymerising Enzymes in Pichia pastoris

open access: yesBioengineering
Enzymatic depolymerisation is increasingly recognised as a reliable and environmentally friendly method. The development of this technology hinges on the availability of high-quality enzymes and associated bioreaction systems for upscaling biodegradation.

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.
