Proteomic analysis of Ascocotyle longa (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) metacercariae

open access: yesMolecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 2020
Ascocotyle longa is parasitic trematode with wide distribution throughout America, Europe, Africa, and Middle East. Despite the fact that this fish-borne pathogen has been considered an agent of human heterophyiasis in Brazil, the molecules involved in the host-parasite interaction remain unknown.

Surface ultrastructure of Pygidiopsis summa (Digenea: Heterophyidae) adult flukes [PDF]

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Parasitology, 2002
A scanning electron microscopic study was performed on the surface ultrastructure of Pygidiopsis summa (Digenea: Heterophyidae) adults. Metacercariae were collected from gills and muscles of mullets (Mugil cephalus) caught in a known endemic area, and adult flukes were harvested from dogs after 8 weeks of experimental infection.

Competition from sea to mountain: Interactions and aggregation in low‐diversity monogenean and endohelminth communities in twospot livebearer Pseudoxiphophorus bimaculatus (Teleostei: Poeciliidae) populations in a neotropical river

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 10, Issue 17, Page 9115-9131, September 2020., 2020
The results of this work suggest that interspecific competition can occur in species‐poor, nonsaturated communities among specialist dominant species. Our analyses suggest also that aggregation is an important factor to determine local richness of parasites in fish populations and that intraspecific aggregation allows the coexistence of species in the ...

Natural Concurrent Infections with Black Spot Disease and Multiple Bacteriosis in Farmed Nile Tilapia in Central Kenya

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is the most cultured and available fish for Kenyan consumers, and therefore, any tilapine disease deprives them the valuable source of protein. Nile tilapia farm was diagnosed with severe concurrent black spot disease and multiple bacteriosis using gross lesions and parasitological, histopathology, and standard ...

Cryptokotyle lühe, 1899 (trematoda: heterophyidae): special characteristics of developmental biology and epizootiology

open access: yesAgricultural Science and Practice, 2022
This review presents the scientific studies data on the special characteristics of developmental biology and epizo- otiology of Cryptocotyle trematodes, which belong to Heterophyidae family and pose a threat to the health of the endotherms, including ...

Surface ultrastructure of Heterophyes nocens (Trematoda: Heterophyidae)

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Parasitology, 1992
The surface ultrastructure of Heterophyes nocens (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) was studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The adult worms were recovered from experimentally infected cats and from a naturally infected patient. They were leaf-like, ventrally concave, and ovoid or pyriform in shape.

Current Knowledge of Small Flukes (Digenea: Heterophyidae) from South America. [PDF]

open access: yesKorean J Parasitol, 2020
Fish-borne heterophyid trematodes are known to have a zoonotic potential, since at least 30 species are able to infect humans worldwide, with a global infection of around 7 million people. In this paper, a ‘state-of-the-art’ review of the South American heterophyid species is provided, including classical and molecular taxonomy, parasite ecology, host ...

The role of rice fields, fish ponds and water canals for transmission of fish-borne zoonotic trematodes in aquaculture ponds in Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Background Fish-borne zoonotic trematodes (FZT), such as Clonorchis sinensis, Opistorchis viverini (Opisthorchiidae) and intestinal trematodes of the family Heterophyidae, constitute a public health hazard in Vietnam and infections with these trematodes ...
