Subcellular localization of rice hexokinase (OsHXK) family members in the mesophyll protoplasts of tobacco

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2011
Hexokinase (HXK, EC 2.7.1.1) plays an important role in the metabolism and glucose signalling. To examine the characteristics of HXK gene family in rice, the subcellular localizations of ten hexokinases (OsHXK1 - OsHXK10) were determined using OsHXK::GFP

On the evolution of hexose transporters in kinetoplastid Protozoans [corrected]. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Glucose, an almost universally used energy and carbon source, is processed through several well-known metabolic pathways, primarily glycolysis. Glucose uptake is considered to be the first step in glycolysis.

Seasonal lake surface water temperature trends reflected by heterocyst glycolipid-based molecular thermometers [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2015
It has been demonstrated that the relative distribution of heterocyst glycolipids (HGs) in cultures of N2-fixing heterocystous cyanobacteria is largely controlled by growth temperature, suggesting a potential use of these components in paleoenvironmental

Biosynthesis of rare hexoses using microorganisms and related enzymes

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2013
Rare sugars, referred to as monosaccharides and their derivatives that rarely exist in nature, can be applied in many areas ranging from foodstuffs to pharmaceutical and nutrition industry, or as starting materials for various natural products and drug ...

Hexose transport in human myoblasts [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1989
The present investigation reports on the hexose transport properties of human myoblasts isolated from normal subjects and from patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Similar to rat myoblast L6, normal human myoblasts possess a high- (HAHT) and a low- (LAHT) affinity hexose transport system.

Erucastrum virgatum subsp. virgatum (Brassicaceae) Endemic to Sicily (Italy): Biological Properties and Phenolic Content of Leaf Extracts. [PDF]

open access: yesChem Biodivers
ABSTRACT The present work reports a comparative study between extracts obtained by different methods (ultrasonic bath‐assisted extraction, maceration, decoction, and Soxhlet extraction) from the leaves of Erucastrum virgatum subsp. virgatum collected in Sicily (Italy), using ethanol and water as “green” solvents.

Effects of Active Hexose Correlated Compound on the Seasonal Variations of Immune Competence in Healthy Subjects

open access: yesJournal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2015
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of active hexose correlated compound intake on the immune competence in healthy volunteers. Thirty-four subjects were randomized to receive placebo or active hexose correlated compound at 1.0 g/d for 4 ...

The Hexose efflux from the peeled grape berry

open access: yesOENO One, 2019
Aim: The transport of sugars into grape berry mesocarp cells across the plasma and vacuolar membranes after onset of ripening is a complex process. Elements of the sugar transport mechanism may be assessed by exposing the mesocarp cells and investigating

Unlocking Plant‐Derived Potential: Regulating Microcrystalline Structure Design of High‐performance Hard Carbon Anodes via Cellulose Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microcrystalline structure of hard carbon derived from green sandalwood is modulated by controlling the steric hindrance effect of the precursor, thereby significantly enhancing ion diffusion kinetics. When utilized in sodium‐ion batteries, it demonstrates excellent cycle life, exceeding 7000 cycles, as well as superior low‐temperature performance,

Phosphonomethyl analogues of hexose phosphates [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1976
The analogue of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate in which the phosphate group, -O-PO3H2, on C-6 is replaced by the phosphonomethyl group, -CH2-PO3H2, was made enzymically from the corresponding analogue of 3-phosphoglycerate. It was a substrate for aldolase, which was used to form it, but not for fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase.
