Hexuronic Acid as the Antiscorbutic Factor [PDF]

open access: bronzeNature, 1932
AT the wish and by the courtesy of Prof. A. Szent-Gyorgyi, I arranged to examine in my laboratory the ‘hexuronic acid’ which he isolated while working in the Biochemical Laboratory, Cambridge. At the end of 1929 he sent me 10 grams of the substance, which had been prepared in the chemical laboratory of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, U.S.A.

Monoacetone Hexuronic Acid [PDF]

open access: bronzeNature, 1932
TWENTY grams of hexuronic acid, prepared by Svirbely and Szent-Gyorgyi, were shaken in 500 c.c. of acetone in the presence of 50 grams of anhydrous copper sulphate for twenty-four hours. After filtration, the fluid was evaporated in vacuo to one third of its volume.

Engineering of Corynebacterium glutamicum for growth and production of L-ornithine, L-lysine, and lycopene from hexuronic acids [PDF]

open access: diamondBioresources and Bioprocessing, 2014
BackgroundSecond-generation feedstocks such as lignocellulosic hydrolysates are more and more in the focus of sustainable biotechnological processes. Corynebacterium glutamicum, which is used in industrial amino acid production at a million-ton scale ...

The Absorption Spectrum of Hexuronic Acid [PDF]

open access: bronzeNature, 1932
As part of a systematic study1 of Prof. Szent-Gyorgyi's ‘hexuronic acid’ we have investigated quantitatively the absorption spectra of hexuronic acid, glycuronic acid, galacturonic acid, tetramethyl I³-fructose, and other carbohydrate derivatives.

Target selection of heparan sulfate hexuronic acid 2-O-sulfotransferase [PDF]

open access: bronzeGlycobiology, 2010
The signaling of various molecules involved in development and regulation of cell growth are regulated by heparan sulfate (HS). Specific binding of HS to ligand proteins depends on the HS sulfation pattern, where the spacing and number of O-sulfate groups are of special importance.

2-O-methyl-D-glucuronic acid, a new hexuronic acid of biological origin [PDF]

open access: bronzeBiochemical Journal, 1976
Acid hydrolysis of the extracellular polysaccharide of Porphyridium cruentum (a unicellular red alga) produced a mixture of aldobiuronic acids and free hexuronic acids. Fractionation of this mixture on an ion-exchange column yielded a hexuronic acid characterized as the title compound.
