Operando Visualization of Cathode Water Management in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzers Using Synchrotron X‐Ray Radiography

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The cathode of proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers remains a poorly understood region despite its importance for hydrogen purity and operational safety. Operando synchrotron X‐ray radiography directly visualizes liquid water behavior and uncovers a transition from continuous to pulsating transport, providing new insight into multiphase ...

The Effect of Water Management and Cell Compression in Bipolar Membrane CO2 Electrolysis to CO

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
In‐operando neutron imaging uncovers water management challenges in bipolar membrane CO2 electrolysis: Internal water generation floods the cathode, while compression dictates membrane and gas diffusion electrode integrity. Strategic adjustments are applied in this work: dry gas feed and mechanical support of the gas diffusion electrode enable stable ...

Strongly‐Anchored Ionomer‐Free Anode Catalyst Layer Fabricated via Joule Heating Achieves Efficient Electron/Mass Transfer for Acidic Water Electrolysis

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
An ionomer‐free anode catalyst layer is fabricated via rapid Joule heating, partially embedding IrO2 nanoparticles into the membrane to form a robust, anchored interface. This architecture eliminates ionomer‐induced poisoning and mass‐transport barriers, enabling efficient water‐mediated proton transport and electronic connectivity.

Going from Pt to PGM‐free Catalysts: Effects of Ink Compositions on PEM Water Electrolysis

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
Optimisation of cathode ink formulations regarding the ratio between catalyst, carbon and binder results in a boost in PEM water electrolysis performance. The optimisation can be transferred from pentlandites to platinum and selenide catalysts, wherein the metal chalcogenides show a stronger performance enhancement.

Spatiotemporal transmission dynamics of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in China, 2005-2012. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2014
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a rodent-borne disease caused by many serotypes of hantaviruses. In China, HFRS has been recognized as a severe public health problem with 90% of the total reported cases in the world.

DNA vaccines for HFRS: Laboratory and clinical studies

open access: yesVirus Research, 2014
DNA vaccines can be constructed to produce specific immunogens while avoiding the risks associated with propagating infectious viruses. Plasmid DNA vaccines have well established manufacturing procedures and are safe in that they are replication defective, cannot revert to virulence and cannot be transmitted from person-to-person or into the ...
