HHV-6A and HHV-6B in Autoimmune Disease

open access: yes, 2014
A role for HHV-6 has been proposed in several autoimmune disorders (ADs), including multiple sclerosis (MS), autoimmune connective tissue diseases, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. There are several potential mechanisms by which HHV-6 might induce autoimmune responses.

Unique cell tropism of HHV‐6B in an infantile autopsy case of primary HHV‐6B encephalitis

Neuropathology, 2018
Human herpes virus 6 (HHV‐6) is known to cause primary encephalitis in the frontal lobes/cerebral hemisphere or reactivated encephalitis in the hippocampus, but the pathogenesis remains unclear. HHV‐6B has also been detected in hippocampal samples in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy.

Glycoproteins of HHV-6A and HHV-6B.

Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, 2018
Recently, human herpesvirus 6A and 6B (HHV-6A and HHV-6B) were classified into distinct species. Although these two viruses share many similarities, cell tropism is one of their striking differences, which is partially because of the difference in their entry machinery.

Clinical Characteristics of Primary HHV-6B Infection in Children Visiting the Emergency Room.

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2019
OBJECTIVE This cohort study, based on the design of a prior study in the United States, was conducted to elucidate the clinical features of primary human herpesvirus-6B (HHV-6B) infection.

HHV-6B reduces autophagy and induces ER stress in primary monocytes impairing their survival and differentiation into dendritic cells.

open access: yesVirus Research, 2019
HHV-6A and HHV-6B are ubiquitous human betaherpesviruses sharing more than 80% homology. HHV-6B is the most common cause of encephalitis in transplant patients and its primary infection may cause the exanthema subitum and febrile seizures in infants. HHV-

Non‐paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis and central nervous HHV‐6B reactivation: Causality or coincidence?

Neuropathology, 2016
Autoantibody‐related encephalopathies represent an important differential diagnosis in adult onset epilepsy. Here, we report the case of a 25‐year‐old patient with new‐onset epilepsy and psychotic syndrome, who underwent biopsy resection for etiological classification.

Title: Latent, early or late HHV-6B expression in adult mesial temporal lobe epilepsy: Association of virus life cycle with inflammatory cytokines in brain tissue and cerebral spinal fluid.

Neuroscience, 2022
BACKGROUND Human herpes virus-6B (HHV-6B) was suggested as an important etiologic factor of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy, while the mechanism is still unknown.

The cross-talk between STAT1/STAT3 and ROS up-regulates PD-L1 and promotes the release of pro-inflammatory/immune suppressive cytokines in primary monocytes infected by HHV-6B.

Virus Research, 2020
Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) up-regulation on antigen presenting cells induces T cell dysfunction, strongly impairing immune response. Human Herpesviruses (HHV) 6B is a β-herpesvirus that, although displays a higher tropism for T cells, can infect ...
