Numerical investigation of optimized piled raft foundation for high-rise building in Germany

open access: yesInnovative Infrastructure Solutions, 2020
Piled rafts have been used as a foundation system for high-rise buildings worldwide in different soil conditions, e.g., in soft to stiff clay as well as in medium-to-dense sand.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

High-Rise Building Fires

open access: yesJournal of Disaster Research, 2007
High-rise buildings play important roles in densely populated urban areas. Those over 100 m high serve as offices, hotels, and residences. Unfortunately, fires will happen in high-rises, and, because of their size, it is difficult to determine that a fire has occurred except on the floor where it has started and is even more difficult to evacuate ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Fire safety engineering applied to high-rise building facades

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Fire safety of high-rise building facades is a complex problem, therefore the use of prescriptive fire codes could not be sufficient to ensure a proper building fire safety level.

Measurements and prediction of road traffic noise along high-rise building façades in Athens

open access: yes, 2020
Constant exposure to traffic noise pollution can have significant impact on human health and well being. Occupants of high-rise buildings along noisy traffic arteries are severely affected.

European Code Against Cancer, 5th edition – hormone replacement therapy, other common medical therapies and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The 5th edition of the European Code Against Cancer (ECAC5) contains 14 recommendations on cancer prevention. Here, we update the cancer prevention recommendations regarding the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is positioned as recommendation number 13 of the ECAC5.

Efficient three-dimensional modelling of high-rise building structures

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2013
A multi-storey building is habitually modelled as a frame structure which neglects the shear wall/slab openings along with the inclusion of staircases. Furthermore, the structural strength provided by shear walls and slabs is not precisely incorporated ...
