An automated reaction mechanism generator is used to develop a predictive, comprehensive reaction mechanism for the high-temperature oxidation chemistry of n-butanol. This new kinetic model is an advancement of an earlier model, which had been extensively tested against earlier experimental data (Harper et al., Combust. Flame, 2011, 158, 16-41).

High temperature extinction of premixed flames
2008The far field of a stretched premixed flame with A→B⇄C kinetics is studied. Each of the reaction rates are assumed to be proportional to the mass fraction of the reactants and have a temperature dependence that is continuous, positive, and vanishes at both infinite and zero absolute temperature.

Abstract Jet propellant 8 (JP-8)/air laminar burning speed was experimentally measured and its flame structure was studied at high temperatures and pressures using a high-speed camera. The experimental facilities included a spherical vessel, used for the measurement of burning speed, and a cylindrical vessel, used in a shadowgraph system to study ...

This paper deals with the development of a laboratory reactor to study ultrafine (D < 100 nm) and nano (D < 30 nm) ash formation during pulverized coal combustion and oxy-firing. The reactor consists of an atmospheric pressure flat laminar premixed flame homogeneously doped with pulverized coal particles, monodisperse in size.

Abstract Extinction limits of counterflow non-premixed flames with normal and high temperature oxidizers were studied experimentally and numerically for development of new-type oxygen-enriched mild combustion furnace. Extinction stretch rates of CH4/CO2 (at 300 K) versus O2/CO2 flames at oxygen mole fractions of 0.35 and 0.40 and oxidizer ...

Abstract The non-premixed steady flamelet model is extended by two simple, robust and effective heat loss modelling approaches. The heat release damping (HRD) approach decreases the chemical source term in the energy equation by a constant factor, while the artificial radiation (AR) approach introduces an augmented temperature dependent radiative ...

Abstract Normal-decane (n-C 10 H 22 ) is regarded as a major component of possible surrogates for jet fuels and diesel fuels. The structure of spherically expanding premixed n-decane/air flames has been studied at high temperatures and pressures. The laminar burning speeds of n-decane/air mixtures have been measured for the temperatures of 350–610 K ...

A particle-based transported probability density function (PDF) method with a novel chemistry acceleration technique is developed in this work. The technique is based on the chemistry coordinate mapping (CCM) approach that was proposed in our previous works for accelerating direct numerical simulations (DNS) of partially premixed combustion. The method

The intrinsic instability of three-dimensional (3D) premixed flames under low- and high-temperature conditions was numerically treated to study the effects of unburned-gas temperature on hydrodynamic and diffusive-thermal instabilities. Superimposing a sinusoidal disturbance with sufficiently small amplitude on a planar flame, we obtained the relation ...
