Cell-Based Assays in High-Throughput Screening for Drug Discovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Drug screening is a long and costly process confronted with low productivity and challenges in using animals, which limit the discovery of new drugs. To improve drug screening efficacy and minimize animal testing, recent efforts have been dedicated to ...

Solution‐Processed Two‐Dimensional Indium Oxide on Sodium‐Embedded Alumina for Reconfigurable Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale two‐dimensioanl In2Se3 oxidized into InOx on sodium‐embedded beta‐alumina enables multifunctional reconfigurable electronics. Sodium ions accumulate within distinct spatial distribution under drain‐controlle and gate‐controlled operation. Drain‐control operation gives controllability of ultraviolet‐driven optoelectronic synaptic conductance

Development and validation of CYP26A1 inhibition assay for high‐throughput screening

open access: yesBiotechnology Journal
AbstractAll‐trans retinoic acid (atRA) is an endogenous ligand of the retinoic acid receptors, which heterodimerize with retinoid X receptors. AtRA is generated in tissues from vitamin A (retinol) metabolism to form a paracrine signal and is locally degraded by cytochrome P450 family 26 (CYP26) enzymes.

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Coupling the Inhibition of Viral Transduction with a Positive Fluorescence Signal

open access: yes
Cell-based assays for the inhibition of viral infections most commonly couple a positive signal (e.g., an increase in fluorescence) to the infection itself and not to its inhibition.
