Themistocle: A high angular resolution Cerenkov light detector

Nuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 1989
The present paper is a description of a high resolution Cerenkov air shower detector equipped with 18 mirrors which will be located in a first step in the French Pyrenees mountains on a site called THEMIS. The first experimental aims are to show that reasonable ultra-high energy ˠ fluxes can be observed and that an angular resolution of 0.5 mrad could ...

X-ray photoelectron diffraction at high angular resolution

Physical Review B, 1987
We present x-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD) measurements at an angular resolution of \ensuremath{\sim}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} which is much higher than in any prior study. Emission from the Ni 2${p}_{3/2}$ core level of Ni(001) under Al K\ensuremath{\alpha} excitation is considered.

X-ray astronomy with ultra-high-angular resolution

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
We present new schemes for a next-generation X-ray telescope for the energy range between approximately 1 and 10 keV providing an angular resolution of at least 1 milli-arcsec. Its technology will be based on diffractive transmission optics, e.g. Fresnel zone plates and their derivatives.

Circumstellar environments and high angular resolution

EAS Publications Series, 2004
This paper proposes a brief tutorial on the high angular resolution techniques and especially for the case of optical long baseline interferometry. Through a review of published results in the field of circumstellar environments, we will show the great potential of interferometry in this field.

Anisotropy in high angular resolution diffusion‐weighted MRI

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 2001
AbstractThe diffusion in voxels with multidirectional fibers can be quite complicated and not necessarily well characterized by the standard diffusion tensor model. High angular resolution diffusion‐weighted acquisitions have recently been proposed as a method to investigate such voxels, but the reconstruction methods proposed require sophisticated ...

High Angular Resolution Observations of Disks

2007
In this lecture, I will review the properties of protoplanetary disks as derived from high angular resolution observations. I discuss how the combination of several different high angular resolution techniques allow us to probe different regions of the disk and to derive the properties of the dust when combined with sophisticated disk models.

High Angular Resolution Measurements of Stellar Properties

Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1985
The technological advances of the 1970s have given us the means to widely exploit techniques for high angular resolution astronomy that have been with us in some cases for a century or more. This review describes the scientific progress made thus far in applying high angular resolution in the visible and infrared regions to the fundamental ...

High-angular Resolution Imaging of Interacting Binaries

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
I describe examples of long‐term studies of interacting binary systems which have detected dramatic changes in the spatial and spectral distribution of the emission related to changes in accretion processes. These studies demonstrate that there are many aspects of accretion processes in general, and of wind accretion processes in particular, that are ...
