Giant reversible barocaloric response of (MnNiSi)(1-x)(FeCoGe)(x) (x=0.39, 0.40, 0.41) [PDF]
MnNiSi-based alloys and isostructural systems have traditionally demonstrated impressive magnetocaloric properties near room temperature associated with a highly tunable first-order magnetostructural transition that involves large latent heat.

Earthing effects on mitochondrial function: ATP production and ROS generation
In contrast to sham and naive controls, grounded mitochondria not only exhibit significantly enhanced energy production but also demonstrate a remarkable reduction in membrane potential and oxidative stress. This suggests a profound improvement in mitochondrial health, presenting a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions.

Phonon entropy of alloying and ordering of Cu-Au [PDF]
Inelastic neutron scattering spectra were measured with a time-of-flight spectrometer on six disordered Cu-Au alloys at 300 K. The neutron-weighted phonon density of states was obtained from a conventional analysis of these spectra.

This study develops a tissue‐engineered model of the atherosclerotic cap using human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). After 2 weeks of culture to produce a collagenous matrix, a mineralizing medium induces microcalcifications over 4 weeks. These constructs, imaged with second harmonic generation microscopy, lead to reduced ultimate stress at rupture ...

Ab initio vibrational free energies including anharmonicity for multicomponent alloys
A density-functional-theory based approach to efficiently compute numerically exact vibrational free energies - including anharmonicity - for chemically complex multicomponent alloys is developed. It is based on a combination of thermodynamic integration

The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...
