High Moisture Corn for Dairy Cattle

open access: yesThe Professional Animal Scientist, 1986
Summary High moisture corn (HMC) has been used for dairy cattle feeding for some time. With cattle fed HMC, milk production, composition, body weight changes and growth of young animals were comparable to dry corn (DC) in most experiments. Preservatives such as organic acids, especially propionic acid, have improved the preservation of HMC.

Preservation of High-Moisture Corn: A Microbiological Evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1975
Abstract Ammonia, ammonium isobutyrate, isobutyric acid, and propionic-acetic acid at concentrations of .5%, 1.75%, 1.5%, and 1.2%, respectively, were applied to comparable 52.8m 3 lots of freshly harvested yellow dent corn having a moisture content of 27%. Treated corn was stored in partially open wooden bins.

Ascorbic Acid Modulates Collagen Properties in Glucocorticoid‐Induced Osteoporotic Bone: Insights into Chemical, Mechanical, and Biological Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Osteoporosis from long‐term glucocorticoid (GIOP) use elevates susceptibility to fracture. This study shows GCs impair ascorbic acid (AA) metabolism in osteoblasts, collagen synthesis and extracellular matrix integrity. AA enhanced collagen biochemical and mechanical properties and restored osteoblast and endothelial function. These findings underscore

Spherical Skin Model: Stratified Co‐Culture of Fibroblasts and Keratinocytes on Spherical Beads Toward Compound Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Models of the human skin must combine the relevant biological contents and suitable biomaterials with the correct spatial organization. Performing compound screening on such in vitro models also requires fast and reproducible production methods of the models.

Relationship of plant moisture status to irrigation need in corn and soybean crops [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Two of the largest problems in irrigation planning are 1) the measurement of crop moisture status and 2) the interpretation of the measurements in terms of irrigation need.

High moisture corn stover pelleting in a flat die pellet mill fitted with a 6 mm die: physical properties and specific energy consumption

open access: yes, 2015
The quality and specific energy consumption (SEC) of the biomass pellets produced depend upon pelleting process conditions. The present study includes understanding the effect of feedstock moisture in the range of 28–38% (wet basis [w.b.]) and preheating

Influence of Airflow on Laboratory Storage of High Moisture Corn Stover

open access: yesBioenergy Research, 2014
Storing high moisture biomass for bioenergy use is a reality in many areas of the country where wet harvest conditions and environmental factors prevent dry storage from being feasible.

Mesenchymal Stem Cell‐Derived Apoptotic Micro‐Vesicles Repaired Sciatic Nerve Defect by Regulating Early Inflammatory Microenvironment and Promoting Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
HUCMSC‐Apo‐mvs enhance peripheral nerve repair by modulating the inflammatory microenvironment (IME), primarily through coordinated actions on three functional cells. They recruit macrophages and promote their polarization from pro‐inflammatory M1 to anti‐inflammatory M2 phenotypes, increasing secretion of IL‐10 and VEGF.

Peptomer Linkers Enable Kinetic Control over Co‐Delivery of Multiple Chemotherapeutics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A key challenge in combinatorial chemotherapeutic drug delivery is independent control over release kinetics, especially with drugs of similar size and structure. Here, peptoid substitutions to proteolytically degradable peptides enabled the design of fast and slow‐releasing drug linkers.
