Microhardness distribution and finite element method analysis of Al 5452 alloy processed by unconstrained high pressure torsion

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2018
High pressure torsion (HPT) is one of the successful and efficient methods of severe plastic deformation (SPD). In this research, disk-shaped specimens of aluminum alloy were exposed to high pressure and torsion, which are the key factors of HPT ...

Diffusive and Displacive Phase Transformations in Nanocomposites under High Pressure Torsion [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2019
The high-pressure torsion (HPT) of Ti-Fe alloys with different iron content has been studied at 7 GPa, 5 anvil rotations and rotation speed of 1 rpm. The alloys have been annealed before HPT in such a way that they contained different amounts of α/α' and

Deformation Induced Structure and Property Changes in a Nanostructured Multiphase CrMnFeCoNi High-Entropy Alloy

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
A nanocrystalline CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy produced using severe plastic deformation using high-pressure torsion was annealed at selected temperatures and times (450 °C for 1 h and 15 h and at 600 °C for 1 h), causing a phase decomposition into a ...

High Pressure Torsion: from Laminar Flow to Turbulence

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
We analyzed experimentally and theoretically deviations from the simple High Pressure Torsion (HPT) scheme. We showed that the nature of the plastic flow and the deformed state of the sample under HPT depends on the structure and mechanical properties of the material being processed. Both laminar and turbulent flows under HPT were analysed.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Hardness evolution of AZ80 magnesium alloy processed by HPT at different temperatures

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2017
Discs of an extruded AZ80 magnesium alloy were processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) using 6.0 GPa up to 10 turns at different temperatures (296 K and 473 K). The disc surfaces and cross-sectional planes were examined before and after processing using

Effects of nanostructural hierarchy on the hardness and thermal stability of an austenitic stainless steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
An austenitic stainless steel was processed by high-pressure torsion, and formed a hierarchical nanostructure with ultrafine grains, ultrafine-precipitates, nano-twins and high densities of dislocations.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...
