Relative Contribution of Trabecular and Cortical Bone to Primary Implant Stability: An In vitro Model Study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Background: Primary implant stability is a crucial factor for the successful osseointegration and long-term success of dental implants. The contribution of trabecular and cortical bone to primary implant stability is not well understood.

Locking of the Rotation of Disk-Accreting Magnetized Stars

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the rotational equilibrium state of a disk accreting magnetized stars using axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations. In this ``locked'' state, the spin-up torque balances the spin-down torque so that the net average torque on ...

Trapping of giant-planet cores - I. Vortex aided trapping at the outer dead zone edge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper the migration of a 10 Earth-mass planetary core is investigated at the outer boundary of the dead zone of a protoplanetary disc by means of 2D hydrodynamic simulations done with the graphics processor unit version of the FARGO code.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

A Novel Triple-Permanent-Magnet-Excited Vernier Machine with Double-Stator Structure for Low-Speed and High-Torque Applications

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
In this paper, a novel triple-permanent-magnet-excited vernier (TPMEV) machine with double-stator (DS) is proposed, of which the power density and the torque density are effectively improved to satisfy the operating requirements of low speed and high ...

Investigation of 2D Nano-Structured Winding Insulation for High Torque Density Medium-Voltage Motor

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Since the introduction of mica paper and synthetic resin-based taping insulation for rotating-machines in 1950s, only evolutional improvements in their properties and processing have been made.

Time-Resolved X-ray Microscopy of Spin-Torque-Induced Magnetic Vortex Gyration

open access: yes, 2008
Time-resolved X-ray microscopy is used to image the influence of alternating high-density currents on the magnetization dynamics of ferromagnetic vortices. Spin-torque induced vortex gyration is observed in micrometer-sized permalloy squares.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Power Factor Improvement of a Transverse Flux Machine With High Torque Density

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2017
Design of a transverse flux machine (TFM) with high power factor and high torque density is presented. Detailed analysis and verification of the benefit of TFMs over conventional radial flux machines, in terms of torque production capability, is described.
