High Voltage Direct Driven Wind Turbine Generator

2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020
This paper reports the design consideration for a high voltage direct drive generator suitable for a HVDC offshore wind park application. The study considers both concentrated overlapping and non overlapping windings in different slot/pole combinations for the design of a 35kV , 20MW permanent magnet synchronous machine.

High voltage at the wind farm

Renewable Energy Focus, 2009
TECHNICIANS DEALING WITH OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE (O&M) AT WIND FARMS OFTEN FEEL THAT THE “HIGH VOLTAGE” DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WITHIN THE WIND FARM IS OUTSIDE THEIR AREA OF EXPERTISE. BUT, SAYS JACK WALLACE JR., HIGH VOLTAGE BRINGS WITH IT IMPORTANT SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS.

A Rogowski winding with high voltage immunity

IEEE EUROCON 2009, 2009
The design of a wideband Rogowski probe for very high voltage applications is considered, based on the analysis of stray capacitance and shielding issues. The Rogowski is interfaced to the measuring instrument with a low noise amplifier. The focus is on electric field rejection rather than voltage insulation, that may be ensured with an optical or ...

New high-voltage insulation for stator windings

Electrical Engineering, 1951
ANEW TYPE OF synthetic resin-bonded mica tape insulation has been developed for high-voltage machine stator windings and is being applied widely to turbine generators. This new insulation has improved physical, electrical, and thermal properties as compared to earlier forms of high-voltage machine insulation.

Oscillations of a High-Voltage Secondary Winding

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1946
THE PHYSICAL THEORY of the characteristic oscillations of a high-voltage winding as a primary, that is, when the voltage disturbances are impressed directly across its terminals, is now well known.1 However its behavior as a secondary with respect to the disturbances is not as well known.

Interleaved High-Voltage Transformer Windings

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1978
Interleaved-turn high-voltage transformer windings are a useful alternative to continuous disc and layer windings for a wide range of transformer output and voltage ratings. Many configurations have been devised to meet different requirements. This paper reports the discovery that the original and most- commonly-used form of interleaved winding has an ...

Toroidal Winding Geometry for High Voltage Superconducting Alternators

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1974
A modification of the Gramme-Ring armature winding is proposed-for possible use in high voltage alternators. The geometry of a toroidal winding permits good management of both eectric and magnetic fields within a machine. Design formulae for a superconducting alternator with atoroidally wound armature are presented, and a comparison is made between an ...

Grid voltage variation with high penetration of wind power

2015 Clemson University Power Systems Conference (PSC), 2015
This paper is about the adverse effect of wind power on the voltage stability of the existing power system. To integrate successfully a wind power into existing power systems, a wind turbine must behave like an existing synchronous generator to take its place. The majority of the wind turbines is based on one or other type of induction generator, which

Surge Voltage Distribution in Helical High Voltage Armature Windings

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1983
The objective of the study described in this paper was to formulate a way of calculating the distribution of surge voltage in an air-core armature winding intended for high terminal voltage use. Before such armature windings can be designed and built, the turn-to-turn insulation requirement must be determined, and that is determined in part by the ...

Corona in high voltage rotating machine windings

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1988
An understanding is provided of the phenomena that take place in the windings of turbine generators, water wheel generators, and large motors. The steps that are normally taken by a manufacturer to alleviate this type of electrical aging are reviewed. >
