Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Stable categories of higher preprojective algebras

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematics, 2013
We introduce (n+1)-preprojective algebras of algebras of global dimension n. We show that if an algebra is n-representation-finite then its (n+1)-preprojective algebra is self-injective. In this situation, we show that the stable module category of the (n+1)-preprojective algebra is (n+1)-Calabi-Yau, and, more precisely, it is the (n+1)-Amiot cluster ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Health‐related quality of life across heart failure categories: associations with clinical characteristics and outcomes

open access: yesESC Heart Failure
Aims The study aims to examine characteristics and outcomes associated with health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with heart failure (HF) with preserved, mildly reduced and reduced ejection fraction (EF) (HFpEF, HFmrEF and HFrEF).

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Framed Polytopes and Higher Categories

open access: yes
In the early 1990s, Kapranov and Voevodsky proposed a geometric method for constructing higher-categorical pasting diagrams from generically framed convex polytopes. This work revisits their construction and identifies a convex-geometric condition that is both necessary and sufficient for the procedure to yield a well-defined pasting diagram.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...
