A Multi-Scan Labeled Random Finite Set Model for Multi-object State Estimation

open access: yes, 2018
State space models in which the system state is a finite set--called the multi-object state--have generated considerable interest in recent years. Smoothing for state space models provides better estimation performance than filtering by using the full ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

On Examining Complex Systems Using the q-Weibull Distribution in Classical and Bayesian Paradigms

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Theory and Applications (JSTA), 2020
The q-Weibull distribution is a generalized form of the Weibull distribution and has potential to model complex systems and life time datasets. Bayesian inference is the modern statistical technique that can accommodate uncertainty associated with the ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Effects of salinity on gonadal development, osmoregulation and metabolism of adult male Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
As a catadromous species, salinity is a key parameter that affects gonadal development of Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis during reproductive migration. It is however unclear the effects of salinity on the gonadal development of male E.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

The orientation of elliptical galaxies

open access: yes, 2010
We determine the orientations of the light distribution of individual elliptical galaxies by combining the profiles of photometric data from the literature with triaxial models. The orientation is given by a Bayesian probability distribution.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A Bayesian Approach to Confirmatory Factor Analysis with Non-normal Variables

open access: yesNTU Journal of Pure Sciences, 2023
This study aims to estimate the parameters of confirmatory factor analysis with non-normal variables using a Bayesian approach. In this study, the estimation method is (Markov chain Monte Carlo)" MCMC" simulation, and the ordinal variables have defined ...

The Bayesian Score Statistic [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a novel Bayesian test under a (noninformative) Jeffreys’ prior speciï¬ca- tion. We check whether the ï¬xed scalar value of the so-called Bayesian Score Statistic (BSS) under the null hypothesis is a plausible realization from its known and ...
