Retention of critical platelet hemostatic functions of amotosalen‐UVA pathogen‐reduced cryoprecipitated fibrinogen complex

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 66, Issue 2, Page 393-404, February 2026.
Abstract Background Cryoprecipitate Anti‐Haemophilic Factor (CRYO‐AHF) is enriched for fibrinogen, VWF, FVIII, FXIII and fibronectin, but has short post‐thaw expiration due to risk of transfusion‐transmitted infection (TTI) limiting availability for rapid treatment.

Comparative genomics of three non-hematophagous leeches (<i>Whitmania</i> spp.) with emphasis on antithrombotic biomolecules. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Genet
Leeches are well known for blood-feeding habits and are widely used for medicinal purposes as they secrete various antithrombotic substances. However, some leeches exhibit non-hematophagous habits and their significance for medicinal use is controversial.

An Aptamer‐Based EXACT Anticoagulant as a Sustainable, Animal‐Free Alternative to Unfractionated Heparin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
By simply conjugating thrombin's active‐site inhibitor, dabigatran, with an exosite inhibitor, aptamer HD1, the resulting EXosite‐ACTive site (EXACT) inhibitors show two orders of magnitude higher potency and selectivity via synergistic binding, while maintaining the aptamer's antidote‐reversible trait, yielding a potential substitute for the animal ...

Targeted 2‐Deoxy‐D‐Ribose Delivery by Biomimetic Nanoplatform Activates EGFR for Accelerated Heart Valve Endothelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 6, 30 January 2026.
This study develops a biomimetic nanoplatform using erythrocyte membrane‐camouflaged, CD144 antibody‐functionalized nanoparticles to deliver 2‐deoxy‐D‐ribose (2dDR). This system promotes heart valve endothelialization by enhancing endothelial cell migration and proliferation via EGFR activation, while improving hemocompatibility.

Anticoagulation for patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia using recombinant hirudin during cardiopulmonary bypass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a common complication of heparin therapy. There are three types of HIT. In the majority of patients, thrombocytopenia is modest and resolves without sequelae (HIT I).

eVLP‐Mediated Cas9 Delivery for Preventing IBMIR in Islet Transplantation

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 1, 2 January 2026.
Engineered virus‐like particles (eVLPs) are used to deliver Cas9 nuclease to knock out tissue factor (TF) and plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 (PAI‐1) genes in pancreatic islets. The edited islets maintained viability and function, while reducing instant blood‐mediated inflammatory reaction (IBMIR) markers and improving glycemic control in diabetic ...

Testicular Compartment Syndrome Post Bilateral Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction: A Case Report and Review of the Current Literature

open access: yesCase Reports in Urology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Testicular compartment syndrome (TCS) is a rare phenomenon with around 14 cases reported in the literature. It occurs when extraluminal compression or increased venous resistance leads to raised intratesticular pressure. The fibrous tunica albuginea covering the testes does not distend, meaning the pressure is not relieved and compartment ...

Laryngeal Leech as a Live Foreign Body: Case Reports and a Safe Removal Technique

open access: yesCase Reports in Otolaryngology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Leech infestation in the larynx is a rare condition with serious implications due to airway obstruction and persistent bleeding. This report presents two cases of dysphonia and hemoptysis caused by laryngeal leeches after consuming contaminated water.
