Polyfunctional CD8+CD226+RUNX2hi effector T cells are diminished in advanced stages of chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

Image enhancement using fuzzy intensity measure and adaptive clipping histogram equalization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Image enhancement aims at processing an input image so that the visual content of the output image is more pleasing or more useful for certain applications. Although histogram equalization is widely used in image enhancement due to its simplicity and

Optimized ensemble Monte Carlo simulations of dense Lennard-Jones fluids

open access: yes, 2005
We apply the recently developed adaptive ensemble optimization technique to simulate dense Lennard-Jones fluids and a particle-solvent model by broad-histogram Monte Carlo techniques.

Cystatin A promotes the antitumor activity of T helper type 1 cells and dendritic cells in murine models of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

Extending the Broad Histogram Method for Continuous Systems

open access: yes, 1998
We propose a way of extending the Broad Histogram Monte Carlo method (BHMC) to systems with continuous degrees of freedom, and we apply these ideas to investigate the three-dimensional XY-model.

Projected single-spin flip dynamics in the Ising Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We study transition matrices for projected dynamics in the energy-magnetization space, magnetization space and energy space. Several single spin flip dynamics are considered such as the Glauber and Metropolis canonical ensemble dynamics and the ...

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Data‐driven performance metrics for neural network learning

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView., 2023
Summary Effectiveness of data‐driven neural learning in terms of both local mimima trapping and convergence rate is addressed. Such issues are investigated in a case study involving the training of one‐hidden‐layer feedforward neural networks with the extended Kalman filter, which reduces the search for the optimal network parameters to a state ...

A comparison of extremal optimization with flat-histogram dynamics for finding spin-glass ground states

open access: yes, 2002
We compare the performance of extremal optimization (EO), flat-histogram and equal-hit algorithms for finding spin-glass ground states. The first-passage-times to a ground state are computed. At optimal parameter of tau=1.15, EO outperforms other methods

Intraneural stimulation using wire-microelectrode arrays: analysis of force steps in recruitment curves [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
In acute experiments on six Wistar rats, a wire-microelectrode array was inserted into the common peroneal nerve. A 5-channel array and a 24-channel array were available.
