Acute Toxicity and Genotoxicity of cMoL, a Lectin From Moringa oleifera Seeds With Antifungal Activity Against Cryptococcus Strains

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 2, Page 682-696, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Coagulant Moringa oleifera lectin (cMoL) is one of the compounds involved in the application of M. oleifera seeds for traditional water treatment methods. The present study highlights the new biotechnological potential of cMoL lectin as an antifungal agent against Cryptococcus neoformans B3501 and H99 and Cryptococcus gattii R265 strains ...

Histological and Gene Expression Analyses of the Arm and Finger Macroglands of Two Hyloxalus Frogs (Dendrobatidae)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 22, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Chemical communication during courtship is well documented in salamanders and newts, but its role in frogs is less understood. In some Neotropical poison frogs, males exhibit specialised mucous glands (SMGs) in the hand integument that express high levels of sodefrin precursor‐like factors (SPFs), an amphibian pheromone. Some species also show

Zebrafish Models to Study the Crosstalk between Inflammation and NADPH Oxidase-Derived Oxidative Stress in Melanoma

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, and its incidence continues to increase. In the early stages of melanoma, when the malignant cells have not spread to lymph nodes, they can be removed by simple surgery and there is usually low recurrence ...

Impact of Pre‐Treatment Serum Ferritin on Response and Survival in Myelodysplastic Syndromes Treated With Azacytidine: A Multivariate Analysis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 15, August 2025.
Elevated serum ferritin levels before treatment with azacytidine are associated with lower response rates and shorter survival in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes. This study supports the early identification of transfusion‐related iron overload to improve treatment planning.

Vitamin D deficiency induces erectile dysfunction: Role of superoxide and Slpi

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 15, Page 3669-3687, August 2025.
Background and Purpose Epidemiological studies suggest a relationship between vitamin D deficiency and erectile dysfunction (ED). We hypothesized that vitamin D deficiency or vitamin D receptor (VDR) knockout causes ED and analysed the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Programmed cell death pathways coordinate neutrophil and macrophage clearance in zebrafish and are differentially exploited by Salmonella Typhimurium

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Programmed cell death (PCD) is essential for immune cell homeostasis and host defense, yet its role in neutrophil and macrophage elimination during bacterial infections remains poorly understood.
