A Tail-Based Mechanism Drives Nucleosome Demethylation by the LSD2/NPAC Multimeric Complex

open access: yesCell Reports, 2019
Summary: LSD1 and LSD2 are homologous histone demethylases with opposite biological outcomes related to chromatin silencing and transcription elongation, respectively.

Histone demethylase IBM1-mediated meiocyte gene expression ensures meiotic chromosome synapsis and recombination.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2022
Histone methylation and demethylation play important roles in plant growth and development, but the involvement of histone demethylation during meiosis is poorly understood.

Lysine demethylases KDM6A and UTY: The X and Y of histone demethylation [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism, 2019
Histone demethylases remove transcriptional repressive marks from histones in the nucleus. KDM6A (also known as UTX) is a lysine demethylase which acts on the trimethylated lysine at position 27 in histone 3. The KDM6A gene is located on the X chromosome but escapes X inactivation even though it is not located in the pseudoautosomal region.

Positioning of nucleosomes containing γ-H2AX precedes active DNA demethylation and transcription initiation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
The order of DNA methylation and histone modifications during transcription remained unclear. Here the authors show that HMGA2 induces DNA nicks at TGFB1-responsive genes, promoting nucleosome incorporation containing γ-H2AX, which is required for repair-

Targeting neutrophil extracellular traps in metabolic and immune niche: Nanomaterials for diabetes tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The effects of NETs on regeneration of various diabetic tissues, and strategies targeting NETs for diabetes tissue regeneration. In the diabetic environment, NETs undergo complex metabolic and immune reprogramming, leading to dynamic changes in antibacterial and proinflammatory functions, and affecting regeneration of multiple systemic tissues.

Demethylation of the Protein Phosphatase PP2A Promotes Demethylation of Histones to Enable Their Function as a Methyl Group Sink [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cell, 2019
Dysregulation of chromatin methylation is associated with defects in cellular differentiation as well as a variety of cancers. How cells regulate the opposing activities of histone methyltransferase and demethylase enzymes to set the methylation status of the epigenome for proper control of gene expression and metabolism remains poorly understood. Here,

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1059-1080, April 2025.
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

Histone H3K4 demethylation is negatively regulated by histone H3 acetylation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2012
Histone H3 lysine 4 trimethylation (H3K4me3) is a hallmark of transcription initiation, but how H3K4me3 is demethylated during gene repression is poorly understood. Jhd2, a JmjC domain protein, was recently identified as the major H3K4me3 histone demethylase (HDM) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae .

Rewiring nutrition: Chemical insights into the physiological and microbiological roles of food's microconstituents

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Bidirectional interactions between food‐derived sensory compounds, gut sensing and microbiota, host physiological feedback, and metabolite production within the food matrix collectively shape sensory perception, microbial dynamics, and metabolic health.
