An Adaptive Human Pilot Model With Reaction Time Delay for Enhanced Adaptive Control in Piloted Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This work introduces an adaptive human pilot model that captures pilot time‐delay effects in adaptive control systems. The model enables the prediction of pilot–controller interactions, facilitating safer integration and improved design of adaptive controllers for piloted applications.

Oral History as Inquiry: Using Digital Oral History Collections to Teach School Desegregation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A body of literature in both history and history education indicates that when it comes to contemporary historical issues, oral history is one of the essential sources to investigate the past, particularly as a source for “history from below ...

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...

Harmonizing the Pyrene and Ether Groups in Covalent Triazine Polymers for Highly Effective H2O2 Photosynthesis via One‐Step Two‐Electron Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The pyrene and ether groups are incorporated into the covalent triazine polymer (CTP) structure. The synergistic effect of the two functional groups endows CTP with better electron transfer, light absorption, and oxygen activation properties. An impressive apparent quantum yield (13.2% @420 nm) and a remarkable solar‐to‐chemical conversion efficiency ...

‘Purpose’ as a Way of Helping White Trainee History Teachers Engage with Diversity Issues

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2012
Based on a three year action research project, this study examines one strand of that research, namely the impact that ‘purpose’, i.e. exploring the range of rationales for studying a subject, has in helping white trainee teachers embrace cultural and ...

Energy‐Efficient Bulk Photoalignment of Main‐Chain Liquid Crystalline Polymers Enabled by In Situ Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ monitoring of bulk photoalignment reveals how molecular weight, azobenzene content, cooling rate, and thickness govern ordering in main‐chain liquid crystalline polymers. Optimized copolymers exceed conventional thickness limits, maintaining stable alignment up to 130 µm with high energy efficiency and reversible optical patterning.
