HIV testing and HIV prevention in Sweden [PDF]
HIV testing is central to Sweden's programme of preventing the spread of HIV infection. It has been widely promoted and encouraged on the grounds that once HIV infected people are aware of their serostatus and receive appropriate counselling, they will take the necessary steps to protect their partners.1 This faith in the inclination of citizens to ...

Arsenic trioxide transformed acute promyelocytic leukemia therapy and shows promise against HIV. A new method to solubilize the mineral realgar produces different arsenic species depleting the main arsenic target, nuclear PML protein, and retaining effects on leukemic and HIV reservoir cells, while minimizing off‐target damage.

The burden of HIV in a Public Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa [PDF]
South Africa has the greatest number of people living with HIV in the world but the direct impact of this on the public health system has not been directly measured. Using data from the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, collected between January 2006 and December 2009, we demonstrate directly the scale of

This study elucidates a novel role of FGF13 in manipulating neuronal fate via mitochondrial transfer. FGF13 is identified as a mitochondria‐stabilizing protein by interacting with mitochondrial proteins. Under stress, the decrease of neuronal FGF13 fails to retain mitochondria within the cytoplasm, leading to the release of damaged mitochondria to ...

An Evaluation on the Role of Non-Coding RNA in HIV Transcription and Latency: A Review [PDF]
The existence of latent cellular reservoirs is recognized as the major barrier to an HIV cure. Reactivating and eliminating "shock and kill" or permanently silencing "block and lock" the latent HIV reservoir, as well as gene editing, remain promising approaches, but so far have proven to be only partially successful.

Evaluating the impact of PrEP on HIV and gonorrhea on a networked population of female sex workers [PDF]
Sexual contacts are the main spreading route of HIV. This puts sex workers at higher risk of infection even in populations where HIV prevalence is moderate or low. Alongside condom use, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective tool for sex workers to reduce their risk of HIV acquisition.

Trypstatin, a 61‐amino acid Kunitz‐type protease inhibitor derived from human Bikunin, potently inhibits TMPRSS2 and related proteases. It blocks spike‐ and hemagglutinin‐mediated entry of multiple respiratory viruses in vitro reduces SARS‐CoV‐2 replication in human airway cultures, and lowers viral load and symptoms in infected hamsters, demonstrating

Probability-Scale Residuals in HIV/AIDS Research: Diagnostics and Inference [PDF]
The probability-scale residual (PSR) is well defined across a wide variety of variable types and models, making it useful for studies of HIV/AIDS. In this manuscript, we highlight some of the properties of the PSR and illustrate its application with HIV data.
