Efficacy and improvement of lipid profile after switching to rilpivirine in resource limited setting: real life clinical practice

open access: yesAIDS Research and Therapy, 2019
Background Long-term success of cART is possible if the regimen is convenient and less-toxic. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of switching from a first-line NNRTI or boosted PI-based regimens to RPV-based regimens among virologically ...

HIV and AIDS

open access: yesDeckerMed Family Medicine, 2021
In the quarter-century since the first report of AIDS in the United States, HIV infection has spread throughout the population, disproportionately affecting black women, Hispanic women, and men who have sex with men. The prognosis for persons infected with HIV has improved dramatically with the introduction and evolution of highly active antiretroviral

Syphilis serology in HIV-positive and HIV-negative Nigerians: The public health significance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Syphilis has acquired new potential for morbidity and mortality through association with increased risk for HIV infection. Case-control survey was conducted using Rapid Plasma Reagin test and confirmatory Immunochromatographic test among HIV-positive ...

Enhanced Epithelial Cell Uptake of Glycol Chitosan‐Coated PLGA Nanoparticles for Oral Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Here, glycol chitosan (GC)‐coated PLGA NPs are developed to enhance oral drug delivery by enabling dual‐pathway endocytosis via clathrin‐ and caveolae‐mediated mechanisms. Alginate layering coating on GC‐PLGA further improves oral insulin delivery, achieving sustained glucose reduction in diabetic mice.

Anisotropic Surface Microrollers for Endovascular Navigation: A Computational Analysis with a Case Study in Hepatic Perfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Computational fluid dynamics analyses assess the upstream locomotion performance of anisotropic microrollers with varying height‐to‐width ratios. Observing their successful upstream locomotion in veins, their performance in hepatic circulation is investigated for treating primary liver cancer.

Evaluation of HIV counseling and testing in ANC settings and adherence to short course antiretroviral prophylaxis for PMTCT in Francistown, Botswana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Worldwide, it is estimated that two million children are infected with HIV (USAID 2005). The vast majority of these infections are the result of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the virus during pregnancy, labor, or breastfeeding.

Human Galectin-9 Is a Potent Mediator of HIV Transcription and Reactivation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Identifying host immune determinants governing HIV transcription, latency and infectivity in vivo is critical to developing an HIV cure. Based on our recent finding that the host factor p21 regulates HIV transcription during antiretroviral therapy (ART),

Insights into the Dynamics and Binding Mechanisms of the Alkhumra Virus NS2B/NS3 Protease: A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
The ΔRMSF$\Delta {\rm RMSF}$ analysis reveals significant flexibility differences between free NS3 and the NS2B/NS3 complex, with notable deviations in specific regions. Key residues driving NS2B binding are identified, and the protonation state of catalytic serine affects oxyanion hole formation.

CD4/CD8 ratio normalization rates and low ratio as prognostic marker for non-AIDS defining events among long-term virologically suppressed people living with HIV

open access: yesAIDS Research and Therapy, 2018
Background Immune restoration is often incomplete after ART in HIV patients, both quantitatively and qualitatively. We studied the incidence and probability of CD4/CD8 normalization in an adult Thai HIV cohort and explored the predictive value of the ...

Characterization of the longitudinal HIV-1 quasispecies evolution in HIV-1 infected individuals co-infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
One of the earliest and most striking observations made about HIV is the extensive genetic variation that the virus has within individual hosts, particularly in the hypervariable regions of the env gene which is divided into 5 variable regions (V1-V5 ...
