HLA-B27 AND DISEASE: A CONSEQUENCE OF INADVERTENT ANTIGEN PRESENTATION?

Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America, 1992
The close association of HLA-B27 with arthritic conditions has led to the suggestion that these diseases are mediated by cytotoxic T lymphocytes that recognize self-peptides presented by HLA-B27 molecules. The further association with enteric bacterial infections suggests that bacterial antigens may prime the CTL that later crossreacts on self ...

Primary structure of papain-solubilized human histocompatibility antigen HLA-B27

Biochemistry, 1985
The complete amino acid sequence of papain-solubilized HLA-B27, an antigen that presents a very strong association to the development of ankylosing spondylitis, has been determined. The overall sequence homology with the cross-reactive allelic products HLA-B7 and HLA-B40 (Bw60) is 93% and 92%, respectively.

[HLA-B27w (weak HLA-B27)--another subtype of HLA-B27 antigen].

Vnitrni lekarstvi, 1994
The authors describe another subtype of antigen HLA-B27, described as HLA-B27P3. It was assessed, using 5 anti-HLA-B27 sera. It is identical with the weak antigen HLA-B27(HLA-B27w) described by the author in 1976.

HLA-B27 antigen and rheumatoid arthritis.

Acta medica Iugoslavica, 1991
The influence of HLA-B27 antigen on clinical, radiological and laboratory features of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was studied. The group with B27 antigen comprised: 4 males and 20 females aged 28 to 71 and a group of patients free from B27 antigen consisted of 2 males and 21 females aged 26 to 69.

[Identification of HLA B27 antigen by flow cytometry].

Annales de biologie clinique, 1989
Cytofluorograph analysis after immunofluorescence with monoclonal antibodies can be useful for various antigens identification on the surface of cell membrane. This technic is described for antigen HLA B27 identification. This HLA antigen is known indeed to be linked to rhumatismal diseases.

Analysis of HLA-B27 antigen with monoclonal antibodies.

The Journal of rheumatology. Supplement, 1984
To explore the possibility that the HLA-B27 antigen may exist in more than one form, murine monoclonal antibodies were produced to B27 molecules. The first such antibody, anti-B27M1, reacts with 100% of B27 + cells and, therefore, does not distinguish B27 + healthy individuals from those with spondyloarthropathies.

[Do HLA-B37 and HLA-B27 antigens cross react?].

Vnitrni lekarstvi, 1989
Anti-HLA-B37 serum of Behringwerke gave a positive cytotoxic test with 18 of 24 samples of B37 negative B27 positive lymphocytes. With lymphocytes which had none of these antigens the reaction was always negative. The author discusses whether the results are evidence of the cross reactivity between antigens HLA-B37 and B27 or whether it is due to ...

[Determination of HLA-B27 antigen subtypes from the results of lymphocyte reactions to anti-HLA-B27 sera].

Vnitrni lekarstvi, 1993
Forty-five specimens of lymphocytes from HLA-B27 positive subjects were examined by the micro-lymphocytotoxic test with 48 anti-HLA-B27 sera and the results were evaluated statistically by calculation of the correlation coefficient r. Based on the results of the statistical evaluation two groups of sera were determined which determined two groups of ...
