Humans are not unique: difficult birth is common in placental mammals

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human childbirth is widely presumed to be uniquely difficult and dangerous compared to birth in other mammals. Tight fetopelvic proportions can result in obstructed labour and contribute to high rates of maternal and neonatal mortality. Ideas summarised under the ‘obstetrical dilemma’ have contributed to this assumption by explaining difficult

A counterexample to the Hodge conjecture for Kaehler varieties

open access: yes, 2001
Summary: The Hodge conjecture asks whether rational Hodge classes on a smooth projective manifolds are generated by the classes of algebraic subsets, or equivalently by Chern classes of coherent sheaves. On a compact Kaehler manifold, Hodge conjecture is

Hodge-Type Conjecture for Higher Chow Groups [PDF]

open access: yesPure and Applied Mathematics Quarterly, 2009
Let X be a smooth quasi-projective variety over the algebraic closure of the rational number field. We show that the cycle map of the higher Chow group to Deligne cohomology is injective and the higher Hodge cycles are generated by the image of the cycle map as conjectured by Beilinson and Jannsen, if the cycle map to Deligne cohomology is injective ...

Investor Perception of ESG in Earnings Calls

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how the communicator's role and the framing of ESG statements affect investor capital allocation in the context of earnings calls. Based on a virtual asset market experiment, the analysis identifies that the assurance and reinforcement of ESG messages have a positive effect of up to 8% on capital allocation, with especially

Counterexample to the Hodge Conjecture

open access: yes, 2006
We construct a K3 surface whose transcendental lattice has a self-isomorphism which is not a linear combination of self-isomorphisms over $\mathbb{Q}$ which preserve cup products up to nonzero multiples. Products of it with itself give candidates for counterexamples to the Hodge conjecture which may be of interest.

Past and Future of Sustainability Indicator Research in Agribusiness: A Bibliometric and Forecasting Analysis

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study offers a forward‐looking assessment of sustainability indicator research in agribusiness by integrating bibliometric mapping with ARIMA‐based forecasting. Analysing 403 Scopus‐indexed articles, bibliographic‐coupling analysis identifies three contemporary thematic domains: Techno‐Managerial Sustainability, Systemic and ...

On the intermediate Jacobian of M5-branes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We study Euclidean M5-branes wrapping vertical divisors in elliptic Calabi-Yau fourfold compactifications of M/F-theory that admit a Sen limit. We construct these Calabi-Yau fourfolds as elliptic fibrations over coordinate flip O3/O7 orientifolds of ...

Stock Exchange ESG Disclosure Guidance and Corporate Carbon Mitigation: International Evidence

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the tangible impact of the adoption of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure guidance by stock exchanges on corporate carbon mitigation, focusing on six major frameworks: the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), the Task Force on Climate Related ...

Citizenship education and gender equality: A critique of action plans in Greek secondary schools

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract In the sociology of education, gender education follows current policies developed and promoted through citizenship education. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations addressing global social inequalities include gender equality (SDG 5).

Habitat complexity and prey composition shape an apex predator's habitat use across contrasting landscapes

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
The spatial ecology of stalk‐and‐ambush predators like the Eurasian lynx Lynx lynx depends on prey availability and environmental features, yet the relative roles of these factors remain unclear at large spatial scales. In this study, we analysed lynx habitat use across central and southern Finland using snow‐track data from the Wildlife Triangle ...
