Data-Driven Gas Holdup Correlation in Bubble Column Reactors Considering Alcohol Concentration and Carbon Number

open access: yesChemEngineering
Due to the complex relationship between various parameters affecting gas holdup in bubble column reactors, a unique correlation for gas holdup does not exist.

Effects of EOR chemicals and superficial gas velocity on bubble size and gas holdup of a bubble column

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2019
Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) can boost oil extraction in offshore operations, however one of the main concerns regarding its application is how the efficiency of flotation units for treating produced water is affected.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

A simple correlation for prediction of the liquid slug holdup in gas/non-Newtonian fluids: Horizontal to upward inclined flow

open access: yes, 2013
This paper studies the liquid slug holdup of gas/non-Newtonian fluids in horizontal and inclined pipes. The results of the study show that the liquid slug holdup significantly increases for a given mixture velocity as the liquid phase becomes ...

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Institutional competition, political process and holdup [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We compare the effect of legal and institutional competition for the design of labor institutions in an environment characterized by holdup problems in human and physical capital. We compare autarky with the two country case, assuming that capital is perfectly mobile and labor immobile. We distinguish two cases.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
