Quantitative identification of failure behaviors of 3D printed rock-like specimen containing a single hole and double cracks

open access: yesRock and Soil Mechanics, 2021
In order to investigate the mechanical properties and failure mechanisms of the rock containing a single hole and double cracks, we used the 3D sand printing technique to prepare the rock-like specimens.

Holes in Hearing [PDF]

open access: yesJARO - Journal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, 2002
Previous experiments have demonstrated that the correct tonotopic representation of spectral information is important for speech recognition. However, in prosthetic devices, such as hearing aids and cochlear implants, there may be a frequency/place mismatch due in part to the signal processing of the device and in part to the pathology that caused the ...

Sixty Years of Sverdrup: A Retrospective of Progress in the Study of Phytoplankton Blooms [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2014
One of the most dramatic large-scale features in the ocean is the seasonal greening of the North Atlantic in spring and summer due to the accumulation of phytoplankton biomass in the surface layer.

Regularization of the electrostatics problem for three spheres and an electrostatic charge

open access: yesVisnik Harkivsʹkogo Nacionalʹnogo Universitetu im. V.N. Karazina. Cepiâ Matematika, Prikladna Matematika i Mehanika, 2020
A numerical-analytical algorithm for investigation of the potential of a sphere with a circular hole, surrounded by external and internal closed ribbon spheres, is constructed. The number of ribbons on the spheres is arbitrary. The ribbons on the spheres

Numerical Analysis of Perforated Symmetric Fissures on Mechanical Properties of Hole-Containing Sandstone

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The symmetrical fissures located within the surrounding rock of the roadway (borehole) in tunnel engineering activities can easily induce damage and instability of the surrounding rock. Therefore, studying the impact of perforated symmetrical fissures on

HOLE-HOLE SCATTERING OF PHOTOEXCITED HEAVY-HOLES IN GaAs

open access: yesActa Physica Sinica, 2000
The heavy-hole—heavy-hole scattering in GaAs has been investigated by taking into account the static screening of the excited carrier Gaussian distribution. It has been shown that the scattering rate decreases strongly with the decrease of the initial energy of heavy holes.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
