Fabrication of functional microstructured optical fibers through a selective-filling technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We develop a method for the fabrication of functional microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) by selectively filling the air holes with liquid phase materials, where we utilize the dependence of filling speed on the size of the air holes.

Dual-core antiresonant hollow core fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
In this work, dual-core antiresonant hollow core fibers (AR-HCFs) are numerically demonstrated, based on our knowledge, for the first time. Two fiber structures are proposed. One is a composite of two single-core nested nodeless AR-HCFs, exhibiting low confinement loss and a circular mode profile in each core.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Hollow-Core-Fiber-Based Interferometer for High-Temperature Measurements

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
We report a new fiber optic sensor for temperature measurement at a temperature range of up to 900  °C with excellent stability and repeatability. The sensing head is comprised of a short hollow-core fiber segment spliced between two

Continuously wavelength-tunable high harmonic generation via soliton dynamics

open access: yes, 2017
We report generation of high harmonics in a gas-jet pumped by pulses self-compressed in a He-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fiber through the soliton effect. The gas-jet is placed directly at the fiber output.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Highly Sensitive Optical Fiber MZI Sensor for Specific Detection of Trace Pb2+ Ion Concentration

open access: yesPhotonics
A novel chitosan (CS) functionalized optical fiber sensor with a bullet-shaped hollow cavity was proposed in this work for the trace concentration of Pb2+ ion detection in the water environment. The sensor is an optical fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer (

Low spontaneous Brillouin scattering in anti-resonant hollow-core fibers in GHz frequency range [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Photonics
Brillouin light scattering (BLS) is a powerful experimental tool that can be used to gain insights into the fundamental and applied properties of matter, like dispersions of quasiparticles in a solid, as well as their spatiotemporal dynamics.

Ultra-low Brillouin scattering in anti-resonant hollow-core fibers

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
Sensitive optical experiments in fiber, including for applications in communications and quantum information, are limited by the noise generated when light scatters from thermally excited guided-acoustic phonons.

Stable and Efficient Coupling of High-Power Continuous-Wave Laser With Uncooled Anti-Resonant Hollow-Core Fibers With End Caps

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
Hollow-core fibers provide an ideal environment for the interaction of a laser and gases; however, achieving stable and efficient coupling of a high-power laser is one of the key problems to be solved.
