Chronologies for Recent Peat Deposits Using Wiggle-matched Radiocarbon Ages: Problems with Old Carbon Contamination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Dating sediments which have accumulated over the last few hundred years is critical to the calibration of longer-term paleoclimate records with instrumental climate data.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

The Last Glacial Maximum and deglaciation in central Patagonia, 44°S–49°S

open access: yesCuadernos de Investigación Geográfica, 2017
This paper reviews published geochronological data on glacier fluctuations and environmental changes in central Patagonia (44° S - 49° S) from the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) through to the Holocene.

Holocene fluctuations in human population demonstrate repeated links to food production and climate

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2017
Significance The relationship between human population, food production, and climate change is a pressing concern in need of high-resolution, long-term perspectives.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Eastern Beringia and beyond: Late Wisconsinan and Holocene landscape dynamics along the Yukon Coastal Plain, Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Terrestrial permafrost archives along the Yukon Coastal Plain (northwest Canada) have recorded landscape development and environmental change since the Late Wisconsinan at the interface of unglaciated Beringia (i.e.

Holocene hydro-climatic variability in the Mediterranean: A synthetic multi-proxy reconstruction

open access: yesThe Holocene, 2019
Here we identify and analyze proxy data interpreted to reflect hydro-climatic variability over the last 10,000 years from the Mediterranean region to (1) outline millennial and multi-centennial-scale trends and (2) identify regional patterns of hydro ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Characteristics of seismic strata in the southeast Zhoushan Archipelago (East China Sea) with emphasis on shallow gas

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Based on high-resolution sub-bottom seismic profiles collected on the coast of the Zhoushan Archipelago in the East China Sea, the distribution and characteristics of shallow gas have been analyzed.
