Advancing Biotherapeutic Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis Using Lipid Mesophases: Formulation Design and Preclinical Validation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid mesophases provide a versatile platform for colon‐targeted delivery of biotherapeutics, protecting them from degradation while enhancing mucoadhesion and enabling localized, controlled release to the inflamed mucosa after oral or rectal administration. In a DSS‐induced colitis model, this strategy reduced disease activity, inflammatory biomarkers,

Hypothalamic POMC Neurons Gate the Fear‐Feeding Trade‐Off

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hungry animals must continually arbitrate between feeding and defensive behaviors when confronted with potential threats. We show that hypothalamic POMC neurons engage CRH‐expressing stress circuits and downstream hormonal responses to coordinate this behavioral selection between competing behaviors.

Astrocytic Ketogenesis Protects Central Nervous System Injury via CPT1A Stabilization and Epigenetic Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A distinct astrocyte subpopulation, enriched at the lesion border, drives CNS repair through enhanced ketone body metabolism. This process promotes neuronal survival and axonal sparing via CPT1A stabilization and H3K9bhb‐dependent epigenetic reprogramming, positioning astrocytic ketogenesis as a promising therapeutic target for tissue regeneration ...

Home Cage Monitoring in Pharmaceutical Industries and Contract Research Organizations

open access: yes
Abstract Home cage monitoring (HCM) systems enable continuous, automated observation of laboratory animals in their standard environment without human interference and are aligned with the 3Rs principle (reduction, refinement, replacement).

24-Hour Home Cage Activity Monitoring in Mice v1

open access: yes
This protocol describes the assessment of spontaneous 24-hour home cage activity in adult mice using infrared beam-break technology. Beam crossings are used as a continuous, non-invasive indicator of horizontal locomotion across the full light–dark cycle.

A Programmable Braided Silk‐Glass Fiber Ligament Promoting Rapid Motoric Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A scalable three‐dimensional braiding strategy integrates silk and glass fibers into customizable artificial ligaments with programmable “J‐shaped” nonlinear mechanics. The silk‐rich architecture supports osseoligamentous integration, while glass fibers provide mechanical reinforcement and biomimetic mineralization cues, enabling strain‐adaptive load ...

Education and Training School in Home Cage Monitoring: The ‘Whys’ and ‘Hows’

open access: yes
Abstract The adoption of Home Cage Monitoring (HCM) systems, as well as its effective and ethical use, requires proper education and training in this technology. This chapter explores the critical role of training in preparing researchers to handle the complexities associated with HCM.

Engineered Chiral Probiotics Ameliorate MASH via Gut–Liver Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A chiral gold nanozyme was coated onto the gut commensal bacterium Faecalibacterium duncaniae (F. duncaniae) to create an engineered probiotic. In mouse models of MASH, this orally administered living therapeutic protected the bacterium against oxidative stress, enhanced its gut colonization, reversed steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis, and improved

Commercializing Home Cage Monitoring: From Prototype to Global Access

open access: yes
Abstract Even the greatest invention is useless if it does not become widely accessible. This chapter presents a practical framework for commercializing and scaling automated home cage monitoring (HCM) systems used in laboratory animal research.
